Unsolved Performance degradation when seeing altitude modal
-
When campaign there is a huge performance drop whenever the altitude modal is visible, way more pronounced when in VR but even in 2d it is visible. This does not happen with others modal.

@williang83 what is “altitude modal”?

@williang83 what is “altitude modal”?
asking myself the same question

this one

as i said, whenever it is open there is a very noticeable performance degradation.
How to replicate:
- Open ATO window and drag around, see that it is smooth
- Open Altitude window and drag around ATO window again, the smoothness is completely gone
This does not happen with any other window, just altitude window (or whatever you call it) creates this performance hog.

Maybe the transparency?

@williang83 - The 2D Map > ‘Altitude’ window is unique among all other popup windows in the 2D Map, because it is the only one that doesn’t have a top bar with an upper-right ‘X’ to close the window. It is the only 2D Map window that MUST be, and can only be, opened and closed by toggling the ‘Altitude’ icon at the right of the 2D Map screen again. All other popup windows in the 2D Map can and MUST be closed by clicking the ‘X’ at the windows’ top right corner. All the other popup windows except the ‘Altitude’ window can be moved. The ‘Altitude’ window is the only one that can’t be moved.
The ‘Altitude’ window is also the only popup window with a degree of absolutely unnecessary transparency.
Why? Falcon BMS, LONG before BMS came into the picture, is riddled with poor UI ‘User Interface’ implementation, and this is just one example. BMS has taken steps toward improving the Falcon UI, but there’s still a lot of work to do. I harass them about it constantly over the years. They pretend not to see my posts.
If your performance degradation is that significant with the ‘Altitude’ window open, I suggest it’s because you have a borderline rig. On my desktop, there is a very slight sluggishness with the ‘Altitude’ window open if I open and move other windows around, but nothing like the slowdown you describe on your system.
My best answer to you is to either 1) Get a more capable rig, or 2) Toggle the ‘Altitude’ window closed if you want to move other popup windows around in the 2D Map. I can’t imagine why it would be that important to have the ‘Altitude’ window and any other window in the 2D Map open concurrently.
My best answer to the BMS Devs is to undertake a major overhaul of the 2D map, the Weather window, the Add Package window, the Recon/Target windows sooner rather than later. You will ALWAYS have bigger fish to fry, I know. But the smaller fish are important, too.

@SoBad My rig is fine (7800x3d, 4090, 32gb), i was just providing feedback. Didn’t know that this problem was already known. The performance does not make anything unusable at all, but it is there and i just wanted to report it.
