-Ice's Falcon BMS Helios Profile
-
Hello guys!
Here is the initial release of my Helios profile for Falcon 4 BMS. It’s designed to work with a touchscreen with a resolution of 1920x1080. I use this profile along with Morhpine’s profile for the TM Warthog (with a few edits to the .key file) and Lightning’s MFDE for the gauges.
This is the profile with the MFDE gauges and Helios running:
And this is what is extracted with MFDE:
DED, PFL, and MFDs are extracted via the built-in BMS extractor and these are the sizes and “relative coordinates” to help with getting them in place:
MFDs – 347x347, 669 pixels from top edge, 64/1509 pixels from left screen edge for the left/right MFD
DED – 369x140, 23 pixels from top, 1235 from left edge
PFL – 369x140, 190 pixels from top, 1527 from left edgeI have it set up with the Borders option unticked.
Unfortunately, I don’t think it is possible to setup MFDE to be as exact as this so I have provided a link to the screenshots above to help with positioning the gauges in MFDE.
Here are the needed files:
-Ice’s Falcon BMS v14 – place this on your /Documents/Helios/Profiles directory
Custom Images – unzip to your /Documents/Helios/Images directory, so you should end up with a /Images/Helios Project directory and a /Images/Ice directory
.key file used – put in your /BMS/User/Config directory. This is Morphine’s profile with a few edits and adapted to Kolbe’s format
Full layout and MFDE gauges only – possibly set as wallpaper on touchscreen as a guide on placing MFDE gaugesI’ve whipped up a couple of Helios tutorials as well to help explain how to use Helios and should help with any necessary editing to the profile to make it work with your individual setups:
Enjoy!

Thankyou Ice
Your tutorials are fantastic -
Thanks weepop! Glad you found them useful!

Thanks so much for the tutorials as a complete beginner they were really useful!

Hi -Ice
Thanks for this great info and the tutorial videos! I am trying to setup a similiar setup as yours, but I get it to work… I hope you can point me in the right direction.I have an old system with two cards HD5700 cards. The first card is connected to a triplehead2go. I have connected three 17-inch monitors to the tripplehead. These card run my desktop in 3072x768. In windows these are seen as my first display. The windows taskbar and start button is on the left monitor.
The second card is connected to my touchscreen, which is an Iilyama Prolite 2250. This monitor is display number two in windows and runs in 1920x1080.
Now, i have a few problems. When I use the touchscreen (monitor 2), I can selected items on the three other monitors but not on the touchscreen… Weird, but thats how it now works. When i switch the monitors in windows (make monitor 1 monitor 2 and the otherway around), my touchscreen works, but… falcon only runs on the touchscreen and not on the tripplescreen.
So my question: How have you setup your monitors in windows? Which is first and which is second? What are you settings for the Catalyst Control Center?
I hope you can help me, I am kind of lost…

I’m running BMS as windowed mode, maybe that’s your problem? Also using SoftTH to stretch the display over my three monitors so not using Eyefinity.
Without running BMS, do all of your monitors work? Confirm that you are using “Extend desktop to this display” and not “duplicate desktop”??

Nice job!!! I’ll be doing this shortly with my Viewsonic 22" monitor.

Hi ice,
Thanks for your help! It works now i’ll have to finetune some setting from mde to fit your screen. Thanks again! -
Glad to have helped!

Hi Ice, nice profile and nice videos.
I’m using a profile very similar to the one that you are using as a mixture of Helios, MFDe and own Falcon extraction but I have a problem.
Since I’m not using a touchscreen as my second monitor, just a regular 22’’ 1920x1080 monitor, I can’t use the mouse on the switches or buttons that I created with Helios because the mouse is “slaved” to the Falcon screen. I run Falcon in windowed mode via the BMS config (if not we could not use the Falcon extractor) but the mouse continues with this behaviour.
Have you tested your profile and the use of Helios’ switches or buttons without a touchscreen but a regular one and so the need of activate Helios’ buttons and switches directly with the mouse?I’m trying to solve this issue because I can’t fully use the Helio’s potential since I can’t interactuate with its switches or buttons and so there is no sense in replicate all the consoles.
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Ok, problem solved.
If there is any one interested it is just to change the value of the g_bEnableExclusiveMouseCapture at the falconbms.cfg from 1 (default) to 0, this way you can make mouse clicks aoutside the falcon’s screen and so click on any switch or button on your second monitor.

Hi Ice
I am progressing well with my own profile based loosely on yours but restricted to one 15" touch monitor.
I have two questions you may be able to help me with.
First is ther a way to stop outputs from MFDE moving on screen if you accidentally swipe them.
Second did you get any further with how to display susequent pages in airport chart outputs.
Thanks weepop -
Hello weepop!
I’ve not realized I could drag the MFDE gauges around by touch, always used the mouse, lol! Tried this out and it did move, but as I’ve never had this “problem” before, I don’t have a “fix” for this. However, I wonder why you are swiping over your MFDE outputs? Perhaps a different design layout would be better? As you can see in my profile, my switches are “separated” by putting them on a “panel background.”
As for the chart output, someone in the Helios forums did make a suggestion, kinda like a “script” that closes down all open images before opening the one you selected, but I’ve not tried it out yet…. so technically should be possible I guess but not 100% sure.

Hi
I am using 2 monitors and one touch screen and one 27 inch, i have followed your tutorial and when im in the game the buttons move but the switches dknt change in the game.
My 27 is set to the main one in windows
I have loaded your key profile into bms but think i am missing something.
Any tips?
-
Right, i have sorted that problem by changing the string that points to my key file.
The other problem i am having is that if i accidentally touch any of the mfd extractor dials it minimises to desktop. Is there anything i can do to stop this happening?
Maybe put an overlay over the dials?
Thanks

Weepop…. I mentioned before that one thing you can do to keep MFDE items from being messed with is to place a ‘Rectangle’ over each of the MFDE items exactly covering them and then change the rectangle color to #0E080707. This will create a see thru cover in Helios which when used with the Always On Top setting will keep you from being able to touch or move the MFDE items. This also works for BMS extraced items and prevent Helios from losing focus for the mouse

I gave this a test today and found an odd behavior of Helios… but should be a decent and simple workaround.
1. Open your profile in the Helios Profile Editor
2. Go to Panel Decorations -> Rectangle and put one on your profile.
3. Rename that something else, like “Protector” or something so that you’ll know/remember what it’s there for
4. On the Properties tap, set it to Left = 0, Top = 0, and set the Width and Height to whatever your monitor res size is. What this is basically doing is making it fill your entire screen
5. Under the Appearance tap, click the Fill Color and enter this value under Hexadecimal Notation = #01000000
6. Move this “Protector” to the bottom of your layersDone! What this basically does is put an almost-transparent (minimum opacity, but not zero) layer at the very bottom of you Helios profile, but will be on top of your MFDE gauges if your Helios is set to be Always On Top. With this “fix,” I have found out that tapping on the MFDE gauges still seems to “select” the gauge as the green box will appear over the gauge, but it is now impossible to drag-and-move the gauge with a finger swipe.
So why not zero opacity? Oddly, when set to zero, I guess Helios removes the layer. With opacity set to zero, the “fix” doesn’t do its job and it is still possible to select and drag the MFDE gauges with a finger swipe.
Hope that helps!

Thanks guys, will give this a go and report back!

Hi.
Do you have saitek x52 pro profile according to ice’s key?
-
No, unfortunately not. I have a TM Warthog so that’s what I use. I have no idea how an X52 will work nor can I test it; however, I am sure someone with an X52 can give you some help.
Note that you only need to bind the HOTAS switches to your X52, the rest should work okay with the touchscreen provided there are no duplicate key combinations assigned to different callbacks.
