Hud-projection mod

Great work mate!, working nice

as I see it it’s unrealistic… cause in the real one the colors are more vivid… In this version u barely notice the purple difference if any is there…
-
I also prefer one of the offsprings of your earlier work, Mark.
In comparison, the less vivid colours, like Arty named them, give a less strong green on the HUD fonts as well.
But yes, there is a colour distinction.
I’m quite sure for the HAF the colours are stronger, like shown many times in this forum thread.
And for the other versions, the colour is wrong.I understand you made this mod mainly for those gents who did not like the choice of your previous mods.
IMHO the best released version was that from late 2011. I called it FanofBMS432 version 4 in my collection hehe. Also for my taste the custom reflections of the IT version are too weak. The BMS default are ugly, but at least present.
What I do like is the HUD upper area.
Don’t get me wrong, it is once more a masterpiece in its own way, but IMHO for a final version you should stick to your own ideas.
Of course the majority will say this is the better one. Who cares, the informed artist decides.Argh, I promised myself not to post again here lol.

The point of this version is to get is almost glass-neutral like, with some shading/imprints and a faint shadow of the green circle. So, not the purple/violet one, that one is still in the first post download available.
So, true no purple in this one m8

@CT,
you addressed it right! see my comments to Arty above. About the imprints: not sure, I took the version I supplied you. But, I must say, flying with this one is actually likable, hehe, so it’s going to be my stepup for the nextgen - in that case colored - HUD projection mod.
Just thought I’d share this version with you all, so if those who like a different HUD with imprints, but without the violet, also have a quite well version.
… and nice to see you ~round posting here m8!! 8-)

IMHO the latest version is excellent for simulating models with a fairly clear HUD. I was one of the guys who asked Fan to make this version for IT because that’s what the IAF uses. There are many pictures of such a clear HUD (see my post #201 ). IMHO it shouldn’t much of an issue of a personal taste but just the way it looks from the pilot’s POV (we asked pilots), like most other things in BMS. Of course different countries / blocks use different glass so it depends what you’re trying to simulate exactly. As for the violet coloring I suspect even in the models which use it it’s not so evident from the pilot’s POV, such coated glass can look different from different angles. Similar thing happens on DSLR camera lenses or sunglasses. So it’s best to go ahead and ask people who work with these systems because pictures can be misleading if they are not taken directly from the pilot’s POV.

Echo7 your #201 post photo is exactly same with HAF… have in mind lens settings of the photo taken and light conditions, color filters, HUD on HUD off… As I see it looks exactly the same as HAF. The purple tint is obvious in the photo u posted…
-
Arty if you’re talking about the first photo in post #201 (the one quoted) that’s something DJ posted, look below that on the pictures I submitted. I don’t see violet tint in any of them.

All of them have it…
The small ones are off way low resolution and very bad focus and lighting…
If u want take them in photoshop and compare a color outside the hud and inside the hud then u will see the difference in numbers… as of colors in my eyes - monitor settings it’s obvious it’s there. -
AFAIK I’m not color blind… To my eyes there is no violet tint… only darker picture. And the first and last pictures are not low res.
-
I dont see any violet tint in any of those pics.
And if you refere to the color diff in the hud and outside the hud, then there is a tiny diff, cause of the coating on the hudglass. -
Don’t listen to the haters and purists Mark It’s totally great.
(just kidding guys)

U said it only darker… what black trinitron? it’s the purple tint, it just doesn’t show in the pics. Have u seen it with your eyes?
Yes those 2 pictures i used as reference, the others are no good at all. -
Arty, no I haven’t tested it with my own eyes yet…, actually last time I was around an F-16 I forgot to do so (had plenty of other things to check ), which is why before deciding on a mod for IT we consulted with pilots… And the fact the picture is darker through the HUD doesn’t mean it’s because of a violet coating which couldn’t t be seen the moment the picture was taken. The whole point is how it looks from the pilot’s POV, and I tried to explain the coated glass looks different from different angles. Many pictures and videos in this thread are not from the pilot’s POV which makes them possibly less accurate and many of them are low res too but people claim that because the HUD looks purple in them that’s how it should be in BMS. After saying that, I still don’t claim that a HUD system where the combiner appears purple to pilot doesn’t exist at all, only that one should be careful with the source material.
What I’m saying is that there is a HUD system without color cast (from the pilot’s POV), only with some darkening of the outside image. It’s not the only option but it is an option. The first picture is my post is directly from the pilot’s POV, in flight with HUD on, high res, in good lighting, and there is no purple tint. And most importantly we have such feedback from people who operate these systems. That’s all we need for IT, and why I asked Fan to create such mod. For other theaters and or F-16 variants things may be different.

About the HUD tint/coating, that is done to display the green wavelength better on the glass that other colors.
So that green HUD is as crisp as it can get in all kind of light settings.
I have the real HUD glass here and it is just a bit darker and it displays the green color better that other colors. But that hud thingie is another discussion, now its about the pilots POV of the hud projection on the glass, how it looks/fit there, and I think it looks great.
What you modd to have it look better is personally, I want it to be exactly the same as in the real jet if possible.Kukki

Turkish Block 30’s
I took these shots a long time ago…

on this u can see the purple tint reflected on the projection glass.

That color will shift due to light/weather and the angle you look at that glass, ist the light spectra reflection in that curved glass, so you cant just say its violet.

Yeap u can’t clearly as u can’t say that those last HUD pics don’t have purple tint…
But I have never seen violet light spectra reflection at glass on it’s own… Specially that vivid and that much area… the glass down there is curved so it works as a magnifieng lens also…Anyway we are talking based on a photo (3 photos) that can’t help us at all to judge clearly… If the frame was wider and had view without the hud glass then it would be perfect.
For me talking based on those is like talking for water heaters… it’s the same thing… no comparison…

What im saying here is that it woild be wrong to program a violet tint or any other colors, cause you can see different colors on that Collimator round bend glass depending on the angle you look, outside weather/light condition and if the HUS is on or off. so no fixed programming solution here.
Fx if you turn the FLIR on in the HUD then the colors will be totally different ect.
So buttom line there is no real perfect picture of that hud/Collimator reflection. Not that I want to just disagree in this total, but its not right to program a fixed color there.
@Arty, you are right, I can also see that violet tint, but you just cant program it, I can find many hud pictures where the colors are different.
But the discussion is cool. Here is another pic I have taken. Hud is turned off and its on a F-16 workshop
