Playstation joystick
-
Hi all, this is my first post in the Joysticks & Input Devices topic.
I do have a playstation joystick, and play falcon with that device, it is not too much difficult, but it has only 10 buttons available, 1 hat, and 2 “thumb sticks” ( I am not sure how it is called in english)
I want to set up 3 function buttons to the buttons: “ALT”, “CTRL”, and “SHIFT” so I believe I could have three different buttons for each hat position UP, Left, Right, etc.
I would like to add the “hotas” functions to the hat, and learn how it works, how to use the Hotas. (Fake hotas)… Well, at least the most important ones.
Anyone knows how to do that? I have read the manual, and the file “Keyfile-generator.xls” as well and do not understand it yet.
Any help, or advice will be too much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hi Metalhead,
As you may or may not know, Falcon BMS can only natively provide one “Shift” button which is the pinky switch. You can however find free third party tools that can provide the functionality you’re looking for. JoyToKey is one example, which is found here: http://www-en.jtksoft.net/
Take a look at this thread which somewhat explains how to set it up for the Thrustmaster HOTAS X. It will be quite similar when setting it up for your Playstation controller.

Ok, Thanks first, I am reading it now, and I will try it as soon as possible.
If it works as expected, I will post the result here, as an example for anyone who could want to use it too.
Best regards

Calling a playstation gamepad a joystick is like calling a bike a motorcycle

hahahaha…. very good comparison… I did not think about that…
Anyway, I did not know how to explain better like ( gamepad)
Living and learning… everyday… Thanks

Actually, the Playstation gamepad, is easiest than keyboard… but difficult than your joystick …the problem is that it has only 12 buttons, 11, because I breake one of them… I am trying to set the “hotas” function to the gamepad, but I think I will have to change the keystroke files… make a backup first, and then, start changing…
Well, If I do not make it work as desired, I will leave the default config.

Last summer I played BMS in a laptop with PS3 gamepad to began my trainning (at least I had trackir…).
It’s very difficult to control. Too nervous. But to practice avionics and procedures is ok… for a time -
TrackIR make easy everything… I see in the videos, but I do not have any. I tried to use Free track, made the track clip, but the result was not good I could not control the view without it shaking a lot the screen (video) Maybe my werbcam was not good enough.

[OFFTOPIC] A friend of mine made one with PS2 cam and it works nice. I use original TIR with homemade clip [/OFFTOPIC]

i used a 360 controller for a time, my biggest problem was throttle control
i did make good use of joytokey

Hi MetalHead,
Need to know your project… is that completed? please share it…
Regards,
FalconIDHi, thanks for asking… It is not completed, as I had to change the file keystrokes.key. As I am not an expert on that, I gave it away.
Well, we can make something together, what do you have in mind?
Now I have the Thrustmaster T flight hotas X, and I still use the gamepad as a second controller 2 axis + 10 buttons
Now I have too much buttons, and I do not know what function to input on them… LOL

It is very simple to use the joytokey, but first, we have to know what “inputs” (functions) we want on the buttons…

what about SVMapper?
