IFF problem in the campaign
-
Dear all
I have a problem.I play BMS 4.33 in the campaign.I do ramp start.
The right panel show the IFF and avionics light. The IFF is off.I don’t
know how turn on the IFF ? who got know ?
-
First up: follow the ramp start procedures in your docs folder, and this problem will go away.
Second up: IFF is not implemented in BMS.
Third up: check out the BMS secret knowledge collection found in the announcements forum, it might help with this sort of thing.

Dear Sir:
can u try ? I never have this problem in the bms 4.32.I have readed ramp start procedure.
-
Can I try… what, exactly? A ramp start? I did one of those about 8 hours ago.
I would be surprised if you had this problem in 4.32. I think your reading of the ramp start procedure likely missed a step, if you still had an IFF light at the end. The same procedure from the 4.32 manuals works for 4.33. -
To turn off the IFF warning light, press the F-ACK button on the left eyebrow to acknowledge that you have seen the warning, and then press the master caution button to reset.
This warning light, and how to respond to it are described in the ‘Checklists - EMERGENCY Procedures’ manual in the DOCS folder, page F-8.I read somewhere on the forum previously that this warning light did not behave the same way in 4.32 - although I am new to the sim and don’t know for sure if that is correct.
-
Oh cool, a new IFF debate….

This is a departure from the established ramp start procedures published in the docs folder. You should follow the ramp start procedures, as published.
Those caution lights did not normally light during engine start in 4.32, and the operation of the F-ACK button has changed also. Specifically, following engine light off with the seat armed and all other ramp start procedures having been followed, in 4.32 you should have gotten no caution lights. In 4.33 you will get some caution lights, but no warning lights should illuminate at all during this part of the start.
Of course, all this information has been published in the BMS secret knowledge collection, found in the Announcements subforum.
-
Okay - back to the manuals.
I must have something out of sequence.
Thanks. -
The step you are missing is found in the AFTER ENGINE START checks found on page 4 of the Main Checklists volume, itself found in the “Falcon BMS 4.33\Docs\Checklists & Cockpit Diagrams\F-16 Checklists” folder.
Specifically, step 9. MFL - CLEAR. The BMS checklist is even more helpful than the real F-16 checklist in this area, it actually prompts you with a reminder of where the Maintenance Fault List (MFL) is displayed.
I would advocate printing the full checklists out and memorising them.

Dear Sir:
I will try it and read the manual.Thank u so much.

Confirmed - I am missing step 9.
Printing off the checklist now.Appreciate the advice and assistance.

I’m pleased to see Blu3Wolf’s contributions to the forums recognised by a Knighthood
-
I thought they only gave out knighthoods for positive contributions though?
In letter writing, it is not atypical to address a letter to someone whom you are not acquainted with well enough to know their gender. In these cases, such letters are often addressed to ‘Dear Sir or Madam’.

And finish them with “Yours Faithfully” … been doing this English bit for quite a few years now
-
I rather imagined that might be the case. Given that it’s an established form of address, its possible it was being used in that mode, rather than as acknowledgement to the status of a knight.
-
Dear Sir Blu3Wolf:
can u make movies about ramp start ? Because,I try all method and see tube ramp start movies.
The resout is the same. The warning listht up show IFF AND Avionics failue message.I try the same
method in the bms 4.32.It’s no problem. It is strange.

I dont make much of a good narrator, so I think there are better video producers out there than I, sorry.
Still, here you go:
Its not a very good video, but hopefully it helps a little.
