Project X55 GERMANY (Mod)
-
I decided to rework the quality and the precission on the X55. I will not go into details yet (later yes).
So for now couple before and after preview shots of the modification.
The main shaft up to the grip (currently some sort of plastic) will also be replaced with a metallic version.
New wiring of course and also a wider better magnet. The goal is to eliminate every mechanical “play” and to
provide a smooth feel along the axes and through the middle- or center-point.BEFORE

Great work! Once you are done, will you be selling the mods?

Theoratically i could, yes. Not easy to mount all that, so either i would have to add an instruction to it or just take
the hardware in and modify it here. -
-
getting closer ….
-
Very nice A.S.!
I am very much looking forward to see how this turns out.
Any plans to add or modify some switches to the throttle?
-
No thruttle is nice as is…no fixing needed.
-
New 4 spring based centering ….
Once finished:
- 0 (zero) center-play … and 0 play at all anywhere
- own recentering, but NO middle-center “hick” point (one can not “feel” the center)
- push and pull will required slightly bit more force than roll
- joystick centerpoint can be manually adjusted
- different control forces (springs) if desired
-
some awesome stuff

Good mod!
Seems same plastic material as X52. No improvement. -
I’d also love to buy a modding kit + instructions from you, if you ever sell em.
-
Old software (7_0_31_78 ) did not have CALIBRATION
New software (7_0_32_81) has CALIBRATION (its about time they thought about that) … finally something SMART
Note: new driver is available on saitek page but not madcatz yet. -
I’d also love to buy a modding kit + instructions from you, if you ever sell em.
I would have to pre-buy all components, prepare them and include an instruction how to replace the stock (+ concrete glue, washers, custrom spacer blocks and other materials required etc. etc.) and then evaluate the whole mod (plus labor) … and make a reasonable pricing for it (considering shipping aswell).
Keep in mind, that all parts (including gimbals) are custom made or modified in order to make everything match so nicely without ruining anything on the stick itself (the plastic-cast).
I could do that, but no promises made at this point as i have to calculate if that is even worth it for you not for me, because i already spent 200 eur just on the modifications and all the parts required. I didn´t think, that it will be that much, but little things summed up.
If i decide to do so, i will definitly be a helping hand in the construction (guidance).

Whereas the sensoric is AWESOME and very precise (16bit and 4096 pixel per axis) the STOCK mechanics in the STICK is indeed “toy grade” plastic cast.
Very poor design for that class of a HOTAS imo. -

First precission-test with new mod: (used software = Foxy´s Analyzer)

A.S., can you, or any other X-55 owners tell me if the HOTAS has any spiking or jitters like the X-52?
-
No… as it has hall magnet sensoric (is a ueber acurate one tbh).
“Spiking” doesn´t exist as there is not contact thus no wear on the sensor(s).The concept of the stick (stock) is millimetric planed …the problem is the non-so millimetric acurate production quality, meaning that the magent holding “hat” (as seen in picture below) is only pushed over the shaft and due to resistance by the cables (if moving) it sometimes shakes resulting in an off-center phenomon. I noticed it the first time as i opened the HUD software and released the stick back to middle but the “cross” was not centered.
THAT is the problem on the stock. One can compensate that easily with deadzones…but thats not the goal, is it?Picture: https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1012x759q90/546/2ct1.jpg
For normal conventional operation the stick is “ok”. Deeper look reveals poor quality in the gimbals though.

I’d even visit you and pick 'em up personally, as long as you don’t live in Barbar… sorry, Bavaria.

Let me finish this thing…and then i try to make a pricing with reasonable suppliers or parts.
Currently i´m using (as you are from germany too): Igus.de, online-schrauben.de, prokilo.de, sodemann-federn.de, voelkner.de and rcengineering.de (the only one (cool guy) who has or is willing to make custom gimabals for me with CNC if need more). Stick itself was from Gameshark.PS: Indeed, i do live in the BARBARS Franken-lands
