Low FPS Even With Low GFX
-
Huh, that’s really weird, because I tried those same settings and I’m not even getting 10 FPS.
-
Well that would explain why lowering the resolution doesn’t help. Do you know if running the game windowed would cause issues?
-
Don’t know if this is the cause of the problem.
But you have it in windowed mode because it crashes if you don’t? That’s weird…Maybe, you could try to check which GPU is being used when you fly in the 3D world,
by logging the GPU use data for a small amount of time.
I know you forced BMS and Optimus to use the discrete card, but with the fancy switching software around,
it could be that Optimus views your choice as a “suggestion” instead of an obligation and still decides to use what it sees fit.
I know this sounds stupid, but this is the case with the AMD counterpart, AMD Vision Engine.
Hopefully, nVidia has more respect for the choices made by the user. -
Rezzy, do you have Teamspeak??
-
Well, I dunno why it’s working now, but I switched it back into Fullscreen mode @ 1080p and now not only is it not crashing, but my FPS is now easily 60+ on both the Rampstart and the Maverick missions, I even saw it going as high as 117. Either way, I’m super stoked now, thanks for all the help, everyone!
One more question would be is there anyway to change the resolution of the main menu (not the launcher, the step after that where you choose missions and such)? It looks really low res compared to the ingame stuff and it messes with my laptop monitor (have a multi-monitor setup going between my main monitor and my laptop and they are drastically different resolutions, 1080p versus…768p?).
-
I do, why do you ask?
-
Alright cool. Under Configuratons/Settings Hardware/Shaders to off, and It runs smooth like a new PC.
-
-
Feel free to yell at me for asking…. but was your charger plugged in or anything like this ?
Or something like “battery saving” in your laptop config.
As for user interface resolution, dont know if it is changeable, but it is indeed lower than in the 3d world. Redesigning it is not a simple job at all, so… deal with it
-
Well I’m pretty sure the battery is doing the same thing it’s always done. The best guess I have for why it’s suddenly working is that with all the extra hud icons taking up separate windows when the game’s set to windowed mode that was for some reason really overloading my GPU but if I had it on fullscreen it would crash…either way, it’s all working great now! Shame about the menu resolution, but I’ll just take your advice and suck it up. I’m just glad it’s working at a playable framerate now.
-
Oh cool, feel free to do that still (I confess to not knowing much about how Teamspeak actually works, so I dunno if they have like a ‘friendslist’ kind of thing). Might be nice to have someone more experienced with the game to talk to from time to time.
Just don’t expect me to be at all competent for well…a long time. I just got the thing running well, now it’s time to spend hours learning how to actually fly.
-
“…but my FPS is now easily 60+ on both the Rampstart and the Maverick missions, I even saw it going as high as 117.”
Well, I know it’s silly, but if you want to become really happy by seeing a large indicated FPS, measure the FPS in the (daylight) refueling mission.
200?Good to know Optimus apparently does respect your choice. AMD can learn something from that.

2D is hardcoded at 1024x768. Nothing to do really. There is a way to center it in the ini settings IIRC.
-
200? Jeez, that would just be overkill at this point, especially since I only have a 60Hz monitor.
And honestly I’d prefer just having direct control over the cards all the time, it’s not like I ever use my laptop without a charger anyway so saving power doesn’t mean anything to me. Still, it would seem I have the lesser of the two evils.
-
Well at least I know now, thanks for the help.
