Voodoo's Profile
-
Hi folks,
I think that Mud might be a bit busy. I wonder if any could give me some pointers on how to use the profile. As I mention, I am rather blank on knowledge on how to use the profiles. I have the BMS (with patch up to 6) installed and the basic drivers from TM for the Warthog. I would really appreciate advice on any additonal software that I will need, in what sequence and how to load and use the profile.
With thanks,
-
Harm88,
I use Morphine’s profile and I see Voodoo’s is based on that so I’ll try to point you in the right direction. I presume you are using Voodoo’s as you do not have TrackIR.
-
Place FalconBMS-Warthog.tmc in a folder (I named mine TARGET Scripts), you will need to refer to this folder later when you start TARGET and run the script. As you collect different scripts this is where you will place them.
-
Place Warthog_DX.key in another new folder (I named it BMS Keys), you will be loading the key into BMS later. Again as you collect keys this where you put them.
-
The axismapping.dat and joystick.cal files you place in your X:\Falcon BMS 4.32\User\Config folder and over write the existing ones. These set up your controls, Voodoo did this to save you having to do it in game. Once you have saved them go to each one and change them to “read only”. This will save your control settings if you accidentally start BMS without starting in the right sequence.
-
Now start BMS and go to Setup/controllers. On that main screen you should see which keyfile is already loaded. Might be BMS.key. You need to load the Warthog_DX.key you saved. Go to the load button at the bottom of the list and navigate to where you saved Warthog_DX and load it. It should now say Warthog_DX at the top. Exit out of BMS.
-
Start TARGET, I use the script editor to start my scripts. Select “Menu”, then open and navigate to the folder you saved the FalconBMS-Warthog.tmc to. Click on the file then click on run in the toolbar at the top. Always start TARGET before BMS. This is why you made those two other files read only for that one time you forget… Lol.
-
Now start BMS and jump into instant action to try it out. Hope I didn’t forget a step.

Hi Sarge55,
Brilliant. Your instructions where bang on. I may have missed something becuase I could not get the “load button” to navigate to the my BMS_Keys folder but I simply placed the Warthog_DX.key into the …\user\config folder and loaded it from there. I have now downloaded the TARGET software and I think that I am away…Cheers,
P.S. I am also from Canada (Toronto), but I am now living in Germany.

Hi Sarge,
There is something that I am not getting. Your instructions (and I have read Mud’s and Voodoo as well), clearly state in point 3 to change the file attributes of axismapping.dat and joystick.cal to save the controls settings. Yet, mine changes every time. I have the script editor open before running the sim, exit the game (script editor still running), go back into the sim and each time I need to re-do all controller settings. I have checked the files and the attribute is still read-only, the date/time have not changed. Should the read-only be applied after the first setup of the controllers perhaps?
Cheers.

Actually the “Load” issue may have been my error, sorry about that it had been a while since I loaded it. Glad you got it sorted though. Ah, another Canadian Eh? Well if you move back again you’ll have to consider “Gods Country” here on the west coast… I’ll look for you if you fly Falcon Online (new campaign starting August 10th).

Right on buddy. It might be a while before I can properly fly online, but that is my goal mate.
At the same time, I am wondering if I am how much I am denying myself of the better immersion by not having rudder pedals. Noticing all of the regulars here, it seem to be required tool for the job. Presumably you are quite happy with your CH pedals?
Any thoughts about the issue of re-applying my controls on each entry into the sim?Cheers.
-
I like my CH Pedals. I’ve had them for a number of years and work fine.
I actually bought my pedals fly the Ka-50 and the A-10C in DCS both of which require pedals to fly. The F-16 really doesn’t need them except for steering on the ground and I think there is a way to set up your mouse wheel to operate the NWS. Try a search in this section.
I would say if you were going to make a “next purchase” for flying it should be Track IR if you do not already have it. Amazing device, I would not fly without it again. There are some free head tracking options but from what I understand they can be finicky. Check here https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?54-Head-Tracking.
Yes, first set up the controls then go into Explorer and set the two files to “read only”. That should solve the issue.

Ok, thats interesting about the pedals. I knew about the NWS so that’s cool (it is also mapped on the profile), but I thought that the pedals might be used more, particualrly during flight. Oh yea, TrackIR all the stuff that I hear about it was also one of the “intimidating” factors why I have not used the sim for a number of years now because I thought that my equipment was not enough. However it looks like that will indeed be the next purchase.
Yep, you are right about the read-only on the files, this should be done after the initial setting of the controls in the sim. I tried it and it now works like a charm.
I think that what i will do now is immerse myself into using the profile as is with the trsining missions. I have gone back to good old “landing, final approach…” I know that there are a few trining vids around and on Youtube that I will go through once I am comfortable that my basic setup is correct.
Eventually, when I do get to the online stage, which site do you fly with online?
Thanks agian for the help mate, now I am sadlling up to join the fight…
Cheers, -
Glad to hear that got sorted out.
Regarding pedals for the F-16, I have read many accounts on this forum that you do not use rudder even with crosswind landings. Apparently the computer does it all for you and if you do apply rudder it can screw things up. I have zero experience flying let alone an F-16 so I have to take their word for it Now DCS aircraft you do require them to do coordinated turns and of course any kind of hop-ta-copter.
I fly on the Falcon Online (FO) server when they have a campaign running. Battle for the Sinai starts this Sunday It is PvP, forced ramp start, etc… lots of fun and challenging. Once you’re set up just PM me when you want to join up, I can run a TE or Campaign for up to 4 pilots online. I’m GMT-8 time zone.

I jumped over to the FO site to have a look, awesome! I can say that I aspire to join…soon.
One more nagging issue: My trottle seems to be wrong. It is incredibly sensitive such that I have to leave it in idle/off position to fly straight at say 300kt. In the setup page it moves from idle to max power with just a nudge (not even a slight push, only a nudge). So for example, I cannot set the AB point because the scale is off the box if I even touch the Z-Rotation. If I fly without the profile (say the BMS profile), then the trottle appears to be normal. With that I can move the Z-Rotation through the full range quite smoothly.
With the Voodoo’s profile, I also make sure that my settings are like these: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?8844-Mud-s-Profile&p=155588&viewfull=1#post155588
Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?
Cheers,

It could be you have not set your idle and AB in the main settings page.
Set your throttle at the idle position then right click “set A/B” button, it should set a red line where the throttle indication is. If it’s a green line then just re-click only do a left click instead. Sorry can’t remember which one is which, right click for idle and left click for A/B or vise versa… Now move your throttle to the A/B stop and either right or left click to get a green line where the throttle indicator is.
Should look like mine when you are done.
Hopefully that’s the issue.

Brilliant! I cannot believe that it was so easy. OK, I just downloaded all 18 of Krause’s tutorials to watch while I am travelling this weekend (gone to Greece for vacation).
I wont get to practice, but I think that I will at least get to watch a few vids while the family is not lookingCheers pal!
-
Have a great trip.
Krause’s videos are great but also read the Dash-1 by Red Dog and the BMS Manual. They are in PDF in your Docs file a little light reading…
-
haha… cross my fingers that you will find a good place to watch the vids. let us know
cheers

Also had the problem with not having the right throttle settings (idle pwr to high) and not saving my axis settings. Now reading this makes thing clear
Thanks! -
I’m brand new was finally able to find and install falcon 4.0 along with BMS. I also just finally figured out that T.A.R.G.E.T. is free hahaha. So I’m curious what to do with the files and run them with TARGET in order to work. I got a different profile to work, however, I really would like to try this one too! Thanks for the help!
