X65F: force sensing mode and joystick longevity
-
I noticed that when flying on M1 force setting, X65F joystick is really under strain, since I’m putting a lot of physical force on it. How do you think guys - is higher force setting reducing joystick’s life? I mean life of construction itself and not life of force sensors.
-
I assume you mean the F1 force setting?
When I flew with it I actually made it less sensitive again than the default F1 setting, so that I had to pull even harder on it.
I do note that mine has a slight amount of physical play in the stick now, if enough force is applied, and others report zero movement in the stick at all with high force, so maybe there has been.

I guess if one squeezes those sensors long enough (have seen pics of it taken apart)….everything will wear out.

I have a FSSB Mod cougar. I’m assuming you can set the sensitivity of your joystick after you have set a certain amount of lbs. My force sensor is set to the lowest lbs and calibrated to the lowest sensitivity I can handle. Just relaxing my hand on the stick can make me pull more than 4g’s so I have to control my wrist not my joystick. In other words, I strain my wrist more than my joystick increasing the joystick life. I get a better feel of the jet to a point I started developing a nature feel of how the jet is behaving without relaying on the instruments as much. You can try my recommendation but it will take a while to get use too.

Does anyone know what sort of force is required in a real F16?
In lbs. -

It’s exactly why I’m asking - I noticed that stick moves several mm in all directions.
Paveway, what about pressing buttons on stick? With high sensitivity I find it difficult to press button without rocking a/c.

In lbs.https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/content.php?167-Flight-Model-%28FM%29-Developer-s-Notes-Part-7
25 lbsf gives you 9G, -16 lbsf gives you -3G.
I have to say Im not a fan at all of Paveways method, I first tried using my X-65F with very high sensitivity, and I would put the aircraft in a 3G pull trying to pickle.
Only learnt to fly properly (sorta) after setting very low sensitivity. When I moved to my FCC3, I kept the low sensitivity and it works for me. Just need a clamp to hold the stick to the table, and heavy stuff on the desk so as to keep the table from moving too much.
As far as I recall my X-65F always moved a very slight amount, couple mmm in all directions. Never been a problem with it (true, its had LOTS of other problems, but this wasnt one of them).

As sensitive the joystick is, I don’t have a problem pressing buttons nor does the action rock the A/C. The cougar is designed differently than the X 65 F so the feel of the grip can be different. Also, how you position your joystick from you can be a factor. Mess around with it until you feel as if you just put on a nice fitted leather glove.

I have mine medium setting for general flying and adjusted dead zone and can fly with hand rested on stick working good for me I go sensitive when on the ground taxiing or if I need to get out of trouble quick I have found I never needed heavy pressure on the stick.
I like the hotas that much I am considering another for backup.

Guys do you have problems with the buttons too? If I press button 4 it signals button 1 and 2 as well. I can fix this problem by plugging the USB cable out and in. But the problem will occur again after a reboot or some random time.

Never seen it signal wrong buttons before sorry.
