A Great Read From the First USAF Pilot selected to Fly Fulcrums.

Good Morning Gentlemen-
I stumbled upon this lengthy article/interview with Lt. Col Fred “Spanky” clifton. He was the first US pilot selected to fly German Fulcrums in the mid '90’s. He provides some great insight detailing differences between the Viper and the Eagle and few of the shortcomings/strengths of the Fulcrum (crappy HUD vs solid HMS/ARCHER capability). We is a Fighter Weapons School Grad, and goes into detail as to how he was able employ the Viper to beat F-15’s 1v1.
It will be interesting to see if his 1v1 BFM techniques against a '15 will work in BMS. Very interested for any feedback from the BMS community after some 1v1 '16 vs '15 hops? Also makes some great points on thrust vectoring…overall pretty good at air shows but not always useful in ACM.

Great article ! Thanks for posting. I was surprise about the part on the mirage 2000 / french Air Force. Perhaps statically not significant yet still surprising.

Hm, I just finished reading “Viper Pilot” by Dan Hampton and it’s also full of digs, stabs and friendly jokes aimed at the French military and population in general. I guess it’s a thing between the two nations (remember “freedom fries”? ;)) or at least their soldiers.
Cheers, Uwe
PS: Not meaning to start a political discussion, just an observation.
PPS: Are there any other good F-16 books you can recommend? I already own “Eye of the Viper” and “Vipers in the Storm”. -
