Cheap alternative for Track IR?
-
Hello guys,
are there any alternatives, more cheap, for this Track IR out there?
I am not really in the stuff right now and i was willing to pay for a Track IR, but i simply can not.
Thanks.

EDTracker, which is much cheaper and (IMO) much better, then there are also DIY versions like FreeTrack, and then less effort (but IMO lower quality) options like FaceTrackNoIR.
EDTracker has prebuilt versions (more expensive, almost plug and play) and DIY versions (very cheap, requires some assembly and effort on your part). It works off the same technology as the real JHMCS head tracking. No IR beams required, which means it works in ANY lighting conditions, unlike TIR.
You can make your own trackclip hardware with some IR LEDs, and you can use a number of cheap webcams to make a tracking camera. This is similarly cheap like the DIY EDTracker, but has the same problems TIR has with lighting conditions.
FaceTrackNoIR is software that uses a webcam to track your facial movements, which lets you use headtracking with very little setup or hardware. However, the quality of the tracking leaves a bit to be desired. By all accounts, it is not as accurate as EDTracker or TIR, but some other folks have had better luck with it than I personally had (for me, it was unusable except to confirm that I really did want headtracking).

I can definitely recommend FaceTrackNoIR (never mind the name, it does clip / point-tracking too using the pointtracker plugin provided with the software). I use it in conjunction with the DelanClip and a used ps eye webcam. Bought everything from Tomasz for around €50 including shipping from the UK.
You can also build the clip yourself for about €10 in parts, then all you’ll need is the facetracknoir software (costs around 3€ I think) and a webcam (you can build an IR filter from an old floppy disk or from a strip of exposed camera film).
Cheers, Uwe
