G940, where to start in this sim?
-
hey guys, i am not a flight sim pro, my only flight sim i play before was “Rise of Flight” quiet some time ago. in RoF i needed not much button mapping, planes are simple.
now i try this game/sim and i am a little stunned by the many key bindings. i do not know where to starti would like to try to avoid mapping buttons directly in the logitech profiler, i am not sure i dont thrust the profiler to work right.
however i try to map throttle in game to the g940 throttle and it kinda did nothing.
i am not sure what buttons i actually need, and when i try the training mission1(ground ops) of course i can klick knobs in cockpit but nothing on the g940 is mapped right so i am unable to start even with the most basic stuff.can you give me some tips?
thanks you very much!

maybe someone can share a profile but what’s always advisable is to mimic the HOTAS functionality as closely as possible. Details are in the T.O. BMS1F-16CM-1 from page 54 onwards.

Have a look through the threads in this Logitech sub-forum, some of them are G940 related and may help.
Cashman’s profile might be worth exploring for instance. I know you wanted to avoid using the profiler, but it would be a quick and easy way to get started. Once you have a few hours under your belt with it (or any other setup you find) you should have more of an idea of how you would prefer to set up your G940.
I would also direct you to the excellent manuals by Kolbe explaining how callbacks, key files and DirectX works in Falcon BMS. They are in your \Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\Docs\Key Files & Input folder.

thanks for the prompt answers! i have Crashman´s 940 profile now, i just put it in and see how it works out.
@Darkman -> i will look into the folder you described.alright, back to training 1 “ground ops”, lets see how far i get.

Good luck Red6; the training manual is excellent and as a companion to that I can also recommend Supanova’s guides which cover the training missions step by step:

ok this time i made it to the engine spool up or what it is called. i have the switch to start 2, the green light come on, all good. but the (physical g940)throttle does nothing. when i go back to setup/controller i see that when i switch to G940 throttle, when i move the 2 levers, it move the gray ball in the blue box that is supposed to show joystick movement but does nothing on the blue throttle bar.
so it is recognized but its not doing the right thing.presently i try to find the command that needs to be mapped in order to increase throttle or how to tell this game that this 2 axis are not for the joystick but for throttle. as long as the throttle does not work i think i can not progress in the mission as after i press the “idle dent” button to get the engine to start when it hit 20%rpm i can not increase throttle further anymore. so i need to fix that next.
i think this is the most complicated game to set up that i played so far

The learning curve is steep, but so is the reward

oh i missed the advanced tab. throttle seems fixed and the setting stick. that was totaly my bad, i did not see that.

sry for the double post;
so far everything worked out nice, i managed to take off yesterday after getting through all the needed checks. i skipped the eye candy checks. today i try to finish the navigation part and maybe i attempt a few landings at kusan too.however i have some unique problem with my G940 joystick that others probably dont have. the things is it has a stick extension installed, or rather i made one myself cause it was very very beneficial for flying the WW1 aircrafts. since this WW1 planes do not have autopilot or fly by wire, i could not let go of the stick in flight and had to hold it from start to landing.
now in this game, it seems i should be able to let go of the stick and the plane just fly straight, in order to press some knobs or manipulate some system where i need the mouse and/or keyboard. however when i let go of the stick if falls forward a bit and the plane start to dive down.
i am not sure how to handle this. either i can try to add FFB to an amount where the stick keeps perfectly straight(i have FFB off now), but i dont think this will be enough, or i use the autopilot every time i have to let go of the stick. i dont know if there could be another solution to this. trim may be not practical.is this even a problem later on? am i supposed to be able to let go of the stick and the plane goes perfectly straight? what would you guys do or suggest?

The FLCS should keep the plane pretty much straight and level given no other inputs or adverse weather conditions. Your problem is that the input is changing, so you need to address that problem, either with FFB or by removing the extension.

seems FFB largely fixed that problem now, when the plane is at speed it seems it generates enough FFB to keep the stick upright just with the FFB. lucky me, cause the extension can not be removed easy
