Clarification for models
-
Just wanted to ask to clarify some things from the devs and the team here.
1st There’s a bunch of sites with free 3d models such as 3d warehouse and others, owners of the models often say in the read me or the release notes “free to use in your scene or in games” so the question to that part is can be used in BMS?
2nd I have a batch of Alphasim’s models in 3ds format, released by Alphasim back in 2015 if i remember correct with the note “feel free to port them in any game you want as long as tis free and dont sell them or upload them in any payware sites” so the question to this part: Can be those models used as a base for a bms model or ported to bms?
Thanks in advance

I and others asked the same before.
Preference is models done from zero.
Now in the case you present, better clarify and present hard evidence for each model.
Some links for 3dsites and models are available in this forum and devs said it’s ok as long as it’s clear that it’s free.
3d warehouse models iirc ain’t free. There is a kind of licence as I recall from the long past as I looked in to it, and recently something changed there, so better look it up.Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

Thanks Arty i just wanted to ask, yes in some sites there arent all free of course or with clear porting/use or whatever license. but for the second part im more interested as there is a bunch of models released and some of them unfinished so maybe someone could use them to finish them or use them as a base?

Hello,
First, I want to tell that what I’m going to write is my personal feeling, and not a dev team official answer.
It was found that a large number of so-called free models on 3D model libraries were illegally ripped from other softwares. For example, I found that Hawx game models were extensively ripped, on websites such as free3d.com (1st on Google when typing “Free aircraft 3D model”). Website itself is 100% legal, but people upload there models they have no rights for. Same stuff already appeared on Turbosquid.
About ex Alphasim models, you are right, some are really nice. But, as you experienced it, making 3D mesh is the funniest part. Reworking uvw to only have 1 texture file can be extremely long and difficult, and LODs, DOFs, switches are sometimes really long to achieve. So, even I am given a 3D mesh, I prefer to start from scratch, at least, it works like I intended from the very beginning. Also, copyright evidence is long, and it would be spent a lot of time of exchange to raise them.
I would then advocate to avoid non 100% from scratch modeling, while I highly respect your work.
Regards,
Radium

Very interesting topic this yours, dear mates.
Legally speaking, it has to premitted the until too obvious - but however needed - primary considerations about the legitimate use of any other authors’ work, and the related need to obtain their previous written explicit permission. After having solved that, even I - a stubborn non expert user - made myself convinced that a more or less huge conversion work is needed to fulfill all the actual BMS standards.
Conclusively, so I realized why just you, like all the most reliable creators in this community, have always been making your models from scratch, solving (or better preventing) at the same time any kind of future notification about the effective authorship or property of the models which originated the actual works.
And I am convinced that laws are stating the concept above in any Country nowadays.‘Better safe than sorry’? Well, also this could be well the case.
Oh, just my one half of a cent, let me be clear.
With best appreciation for all what you did and are still doing for our beloved sim,

Indeed Radium it takes long time from scratch but it worth avery last second of it when you finally achieve the best you can. I must say that when i started porting the 1st models i ported for Ikaros still i had to make things from scratch and that helped me to do my models and be efficient with them and as accurate as someone can be (see for example F-5,Kfir,Jas-39) but i admit i had a lot of help for all the 3d gurus here, still im not consider my self a full achieved 3d modeler but i do the best i can.
I think what u say here its really answers my question especially for ex-Alphasim models. But still i can use them to compare something i start right?
