Odd SNIPER pod video issue
-
Last weekend I was flying A-G with Mavs and LJDAMs with the sniper pod. There were a lot of clouds but I was visually making sure there were no clouds on the slant line of sight to the diamond where the targets were close to (movers). The odd part was is that any time I was less than 90 degrees off the targets the sniper video was washed out grey and white. As if it was looking at a cloud or the airframe. Didn’t matter if I was pointed directly at the aiming point or had the aircraft pointed a bit to the left or right of the aiming point. However if I was pointed way away, 150 to 180 degrees away from the target area, then video was fine. The trigger for the video getting washed out was always 90 degrees or less away from pointing at the target. This was consistent on multiple passes.
There was only one time where I did get video while pointing at the target and the way the video came in it was literally looking through the soda straw effect. It did give me enough to get the three Mavs off on that pass but every subsequent pass after that trying to get targets were exactly like the passes before. Nothing but washed out grey and white.

Which A/C were you flying with?
Maybe some issue similar to the one already reported for the EF-18M.Check this:

Nope. F-16 Block 52. I haven’t flown the other aircraft in BMS. Neither do I mess around with aircraft data. All aircraft and other data files are default.

Turns out that, for the EF-18M, it’s the default data that is buggy. Hence my question.

I hardly fly with the C’s, but I’ve noticed the same issue when I did. Haven’t seen it on the BAF MLU (yet) though.
As you mention movers, were you in GMT by any chance? I was when I recorded this footage:
-
Seen this several times in beta but was never able to create a reliable repro case
-
@Eagle eye : it looks as of the pod is looking at an air frame part in this case, which would be odd… and probably a pod camera position issue.
AFAIK it can be a hard point issue, so it might depend on the aircraft type.

Aye I was in GMT. I wasn’t tracking the movers it was just pointed to a spot on the ground close to them.
A lot of yours I saw was obvious that it was looking at the airframe. When it shouldn’t have due to your altitude. I was flying much lower (11-15k) to avoid the sniper pod video looking through the clouds. Also mine didn’t show the changing video which made yours obvious to it looking at the airframe. They still might be tied directly to each other though as yours clearly shouldn’t have been looking at the airframe at several points in the video. Mine was way worse though as stated as soon as I got 90 degrees or less off the nose the video went to garbage all times but one. You had several bits at less than 50 degrees with workable video.

That’s what I thought as well, which is why I turned around or banked excessively several times, to see if that would clear the line of sight. Unfortunately, it didn’t.
As you can see, though, it’s fine initially, but it bugs out after I do that 90° bank turn at 1m55s. It’s almost as if that bank FUBARed the TGP’s internal gyro (if that’s a thing), or the camera inadvertently went beyond its structural limits and bent itself. I doubt that’s possible in BMS, though, but with the new camera rotation, who knows?

Welp this is definitely not a GMT thing as we flew a TE with more block 52s and I was in GMT again but in the TE I had no issues at all with TGP video. The TE also had clouds but all was normal. The load out was mostly the same between the campaign mission where it went FUBAR and the TE. Mavs and LGB in the TE versus Mavs and LJDAMs in the campaign.
