Can a Helios Profile Accept Keystrokes
-
Hi All:
I downloaded Helios 1.4.2019.1005 the other day. I have it displaying the RWR on my second monitor (for when I fly F-15).
But what I’d like to do is add a kneeboard to the profile (next to the RWR) and be able to flip through the pages for inflight reference.
I found the kneeboard_carousel and made a couple of images of the comms menus but with the lingo I use with VAC (i.e. for Carrier > Call the Ball) I say “Ball in Sight”.
As I don’t have a touchscreen, I was hoping I could keybind the kneeboard carousel to flip through the pages. I tried dragging Input > Interface > Keyboard over to the Toggle Hidden Bindings but that doesn’t work.
I’m stuck. I don’t see how to get a keyboard bind done and I’m not finding any help file or manual for the software. I checked the download page for manuals, Youtube for help and none of the videos I’ve watched cover this.
Any help much appreciated.

Yeah Helios is like a virtual keyboard really. It outputs key strokes or CallBacks for BMS, it doesn’t poll for keys pressed. I don’t think you can do what you want to do there

Hmmm… I’m thinking you may be right Wheelchock. I can add a HOTAS as an interface and link input actions of it to output bindings. I have it now toggling page 1 of the kneeboard_carousel from on to off to on but I was hoping that I could get it to flip through the pages. The kneeboard_carousel properties has the ability to add images as “pages” but I don’t see how to flip through the pages/images that I added there. But at least I got user input doing something to the profile. It’s just odd that it would read joysticks and shared memory but not a keypress, but nevertheless list keypresses as an input interface. Oh well.
But hooray for baby steps. I’ll get my hands on some other profiles and deconstruct those a bit and see if I can figure this out. Thanks for the heads up.

Capt Zeen’s Helios profiles has a working example of using the the carousel control. Look on this page for a knee board link http://www.captzeen.com/helios/downloads.asp
It was made for DCS so it has all DCS maps in the carousel but you can replace them with your own.
Download the profile unzip it and open it up in Helios Editor. He’s some weird stuff to get the carousel to work correctly but it works. I used that as a template for my own knee board, replacing images with my own and such.

Thanks Wheelchock I’m on it.
I added an airbrake indicator with a closed window and the 9 dot pattern window. Mainly because I can’t hardly see the one in the Falcon and want a go to place if flying a different bird. Mine’s a bit fancier in that it has a small bar that flashes while the brake is being moved, so you don’t end up toggling the brake not knowing if its still in the process of being retracted or deployed.
Based on that I added a similar Gear Status gauge. Regardless of the plane I was flying I wanted a go to place where I could understand what was going on with the gear and be 100% positive of the status. So this has a window that flips from deployed to retracted and vice versa as soon as you hit the [G] key but it also has the green light indicator that only comes on if the individual gear is fully deployed. Very nice indeed I’m putting in my resume with Boeing tomorrow if I do say so myself.
Anyway, super grateful here that you came back to this thread to help on the kneeboard!
