F-18c BMS and DCS
-
hey there, i’m actually flying the hornet in bms, i don’t have the dcs f-18c, but watching a lot of videos of dcs and checking HUD, the flight data is identical, for example, DCS: alt/5900 spd/436 m/0.73 BMS: SAME FLIGHT DATA. and this is not the only example, i did many test and same results. i don’t know how accurate is DCS but same values in flight than BMS it shows that is very accurate, do you know what mean that? BMS has a very very accurate hornet flight model, one more time the programmers made a amazing work no doubt.
but on engine data may vary a bit, only in Fuel flow, not thrust.
i’d like to help to make this plane better and some day like the f-16.i got a question… can i set values for tanks position and fuel amount in the f18c.dat? i got this interesting manual and very useful information, check it out:

And BMS Hornet doesnt reach 1.4M at sea level…as DCS one does…( are you sure about “good” FM of DCS???)
-
Very good point that yours, Daisan…
what is a (good) flight sim, without a reliable FM, as good as it could be retrieved from public data released and after elaborated, of course?
Try ask this our Topolo, for istance.
With best regards.

what do you mean??? BMS more accurate???

The FA-18 had some work go into it maybe?
Just realised this was back in 2015 so not sure what was done to the FA-18 since then.
I want to be crystal clear about the F18 .
–----------
First and i dont think people realize that, well actually i am sure they dont.
F16 AFM in BMS is not only at a profesionnal level, but it is at a research level.
What does that means ? that means that the level of fidelity of the F16 FM in BMS is equal and even superior to the one that has been used to develop and improve the real FLCS at the time when General Dynamics and the NASA were developping the aircraft.
for the F18, i have gathered all the necessary data to bring the FM to the same level than the F16, which means a research level where the simulator could be used as a Lab tool.
That wont happen though for 2 reasons :
-
that would require a minimum of 1 year full coding time , because a specific new aero module need to be developp to match the aerodynamics modeling available and another FLCS module , dedicated for F18 would need ot be written. From what i see here: page 85 to 122 - of this document http://hdl.handle.net/2060/19920024293
i must admit that the F18 FLCS is much more complex than the F16 FLCS…which is not surprising since the F18 is a newer generation. -
I just realize when i read people that think that FSX or DCS FM i superior to BMS F16 that 99.99% of Fligth sim users are unable to realize what is the level of realism such a model bring son the table. Those people just react about the feeling they have , but have no idea about what the real thing is .
SO to be honnest, it is overkill to implement a research level FM for a public use . I have done it for the F16 because i had 5 years of my life where i could, but between a decent FM and a research level FM, for the user, there is no difference, for me this means thousands hours of my life time difference. (and i think there are other areas where i can bring things which could be more valuable to BMS)
As a conclusion, i will adjust the F16 AFM for the F18 AFM (and that will ask months anyway), and that will certainly be far sufficient for the BMS user.
The F16 will remain the only research level FM available in a public simulation.

that post was 5 years ago dude……

i’m not sure if Mav-jp is the programmer for the hornet but btw bms team made much better the hornet since 4.33

We are talking about flight simulators, so the “gold standard” of a flight simulator shouldnt be another one, but the real flight manual with specs. In this case NFM-200.
To be honest, I have not throughfully tested DCS Hornet FM, just some punctual items. I got so surprised by unaccuracies that I uninstalled it in 20 minutes… on the other hand in our vSQN we have been flying the BMS Hornet for years. I know that it is not perfect but at least plausible, and we can fly it using real flight manuals. If we can get more goodies in the future it would be great, but anyway we are happy and very grateful to BMS developers group

FSX F-18 is garbage.

i’m just very surprised how DCS f18 is performing in flight like BMS, i prefer bms all the way, i know that our sim is pure code, and i am very happy that f18 performs so well in bms, one time you try the hornet in bms, you do not want to leave it anymore
