MRM's in IT
-
I am currently flying the Isreal theater flying a f-16c-30I out of Ramat David. I am noticing in the theater that no f-16 sqadrons have any MRM’s at all not even sparrows. Is this normal that they only have aim-9m’s and pythons? I checked one of the docs and it says the the block 30I can use amraams however, I don’t see any available to any f-16 squadrons only f-15’s. I don’t even see them on the list of available weapons. I don’t suppose we could at least have sparrows?

IIRC there is a squadron of F-16I’s in the campaign and they carry AIM-120’s.

F-16Is are the only Viper platform capable of carrying MRM missiles in the IAF (AIM-120s).
the block 30 and 40 are indeed only equipped with AIM-9s and Pythons.
the Docs specify that the AIM-120 were REMOVED from the 30I and 40I. -
the IDF doesn’t use aim-7’s on those f-16 models?
-
Nope.
The ability to carry AIM7s require the radar to be equipped with CW array. This mod to the best of my knowlage only done on a few F-16A ADF for the national guard and the F-16 block 32, 40 and 52 of the Egyptian Air force. It might also be installed on the first Jordanian F-16s, but to the best of my knowlage, they do not have that capability today -
hmm I guess the IDF depends more on f-15’s for air superiority then. I can imagine its a huge disadvantage to not have MRM’s when facing 29’s and 27’s. Of course, so far this campaign there isn’t much of a Syrian air force to fight anyway. So far in 6 missions I have encountered 1 mig-23 and 1 IL-76.

it’s not as much of a disadvantage as you might think.
Mig-29s are very short ranged fighter, they have AA-10 (which are SARH) and if you are working right with your formation, they can be defeated - you only need to break the lock once to throw that missile to the trash. once you are WVR - it’s game on.
but yes, F-15s are taking a major role in BARCAP and TARCAP but the F-16 are also very effective even when limited to Heaters.
