HUD & NV settings

Hi Sungad.
Where can I find the wider FOV? That is what I’ve been looking for. Any idea? -
Blue3world:
I was afraid that may be the reason. I just need to rely on the charts and mission data. Thanks for clarifying. -
Quasi_stellar.
You were right when you wrote, “Go fly in a new and better smelling jet”.
The training jet I’m using lacks many of the features and options. That makes training quite confusing. I jumped into a jet in “Instant Action” and the experience was completely different (better). Thanks

Hi Sungad.
Where can I find the wider FOV? That is what I’ve been looking for. Any idea?Increase the value behind “g_fMaximumFOV” in the config. You might also consider to increase “g_fDefaultFOV” as well.

Hi Sungad.
Where can I find the wider FOV? That is what I’ve been looking for. Any idea? You can set both Fullscreen NVG and default FOV options in the “Config.exe” (configuration editor application called “F4Patch”) - it’s located in the BMS programs folder just above the “Launcher.exe” - and is also an option if you run BMS through the launcher:
*be sure to hit ‘Apply Changes’ to save your edits

2. HUD settings.
-I’ve included a screenshot of the features I would like to display on my HUD but I can’t locate them.
-I have the BMS keyboard layout but the only options for the HUD are linked to the “H” key but they don’t seem to allow me to customize the layout the way I was able to in previous Falcon versions. Perhaps that is no longer the case but I wanted to ask. As an example. The compass heading box could be set to appear at the top of the HUD or bottom (depending on user preference). You can set most HUD options with the HUD panel by your right knee:
3. Altitude setting for Waypoints.
-The last time I flew Falcon was when it was just “Falcon 4” so there was a feature where the altitude for every waypoint was displayed in the HUD. Is that option available in 4.35?To view information on Steerpoints, press the #4 button (STPT) on the ICP to display this information on the DED (data entry display) just to its right, and the Up/Down rocker (below the #7 on the ICP) will change the active Steerpoint and displayed information from it. You may also want to check out #5 (CRUS) for more information on Steerpoints. Subsequent presses of this button will cycle through the various pages. Pressing the “RTN” (left on the center 4-way switch below ICP keypad) will exit the STPT or CRUS display mode:
Find more information on the HUD Panel in the Dash 1 Manual (“TO-BMS1F-16CM-1.pdf” in the BMS programs folder, under ‘Docs’) starting on Page 57, and on the ICP STPT & CRUS pages starting on page 69
-
Isnt the altitude shown by the STPT page now the terrain elevation rather than the flight plan altitude?
If you just want to view steerpoint information, without changing the currently selected steerpoint, using the DEST page (LIST -> 1 DEST) may be preferable.

Currently the DTC ini elevation info is ignored on load and it uses terrain elevation from magicland instead. You can still manually adjust it after the fact though. I guess in a perfect BMS ini values would be populated automatically by elevation data in 2D and then ini values respected on DTC load in 3D. That would require 2D to look up elevation from terrain database from the 2D side which could be slow. You can make diamond-in-the-sky if you want (BMS or real life) but it has potential navigation issues which are probably not modeled in BMS. System expects steers on terrain for altitude calibration processes. It’s just not done in practice.
Almost always you want to edit the destinations instead of the active steerpoint DED page. Editing on the steer DED page does perhaps unexpected things. Steerpoint is a destination after slews. Destination is steerpoint before slews if that makes sense. The difference between STPT and DEST pages can get technical and I wish I knew it in more detail.

Frederf:
I suppose that I’m trying to unlearn the old ways, so to speak from the original Falcon 4. BMS offers a realistic approach and I’m now relearning everything and during this process I’m filtering out the old ways and replacing them with the current and accurate.
The information I’m looking for is presented in the DED Blu3wolf mentioned. Again, it’s all about relearning a system. I’m going at it one step at a time. Thanks

Thanks for taking time out to explain.
Yes, I found the FOV and played with the various settings and finally found one that appeals to me. The DED display does offer the altitude information that I’m looking for. Your explanation is far easier to follow than what the manual provides. I suppose that is where much of the frustration stems from.Another issues I finally resolved was why my control stick did not fire guns or drop bombs. I had to look in the DOCS > Input devices dir > Key file. I found a preset file that I loaded in the BMS config settings; which finally recognized my control stick and dropped weapons. Nobody mentioned that in the manuals. Trial and error for me but it worked.
Thanks again.
