Used new cougar > What to look for?

Hi,
<german english=“”>Which things do I have to check? If I connect it on Win7, can I check for dead zones, smooth movement at once?</german>
TIA

Does it have the stock gimbals? Open the bottom and see how much metal dust falls out. The stock gimbals were terrible and would get worse with use, both because of the design and the lack of good grease from the factory. The potentiometers were also terrible and would go bad over time.
There were some replacement gimbal sets for sale back in the day that used hall sensors but I don’t know about nowadays. It looks like realsimulator still sells their force sensor mod kit. http://www.realsimulator.com/html/fssb.html
Check for the detent position on the range knob. I found that pulling the knob out gently makes it easier to feel. I ended up making a shim to stick under it on mine.

Things that use to break in a cougar.
Stick:- worn gimbals so phisical center play
- loose button on weap release or pinky switch
- X/Y potentioemeters
- USB cable
Throttle:
- loose movement (worn brake)
- Antenna elev potentiometer
- speed brake rail
- Throttle potentiometer
- Microstick
- Sometimes UHF/VHF 4 posit switch
I’ll forget something, for sure.
No much time today.

And what does it means ‘The stick has a small different zeroing’?
<in german:=“” eine=“” leicht=“” abweichende=“” nullstellung=“”>Can you fly exactly with this?
And is (then) 150 EURO too much? (non mod)</in> -
I suppose it is the centerplay. Well, depending on how small it is. If you plan to mod it: FSSB or FCC, that centerplay isn’t a problem. If not it could be.
It could be fixed but it is not a easy task.
With this problem performimg an AAR could be a hell.
Tell him to send you a video. If you could barely see it, it could be no problem (but it will be worse with time. It is all cougar problem). If you could positive see it… It need a fix.
Sorry cell phone post -
Ok, I think I let it pass
The guy who is selling gives only info in “drops” (you know what I mean?).
I’m momentary on my TM HOTAS-X and AAR while tanker is turning is alread hell.
The reason I’m so interested on the Cougar is, that it has all you needs, but not more…no lamps or such.
Ok, thank you guys!
Til then

Yep, that’s not a good sign. Better save or search for a second hand warthog. At least it has less problems. Yeah, I know it is not F16 like…

CheersWith Morphine’s profile it’s close enough to the F-16 to be usable IMO. I’ve been having a good time with it. I need to reduce the spring tension though, delicate inputs are difficult.

Morphine’s profile too here.
@Gearbox, some people creates a switch button to access different curves settings. A finer outputs from the same inputs setting. There are 3 profiles on this forum using search function. One of them has it and it is not Morphine’s.

Hi!
Also here I want to post my decision
I decided for the Warthog.
Ordered yesterday, midday, recieved it today an hour ago. Connected the stick, connected it to the computer, started TrackIR, started F4-BMS…all fine! :woohoo:One little note:
Yesterday (short to ordering the WH) I still had a look at ebay.de for a Cougar. And there was one offered for free with defective pods. Really for free! But I couldn’t bring myself to do it…(if ever I could get it). A good mod on the cougar is (AFAIK) ~ the same price as the Warthog and “everything” is oversea, and and and.Yes, there is very very liitle tear in one eye, now. But I can live with it. Just from the first moment I started loving my new HOTAS, a Warthog.
And…, to the HOTAS-X, these are very different worlds!
With the HOTAS-X and flying curves I never was able to hold altitude and look around (with Track-IR!), never for more then a second. Now with this HOTAS…no problem. Thanks to all for your replies!
Have a very good time on your HOTAS!
