Does a 3D scanner is usefool to create 3D model fidelity for BMS ?

All is in the Title.

in theory any format that can be imported into 3DMAX and GMAX can be converted to a LOD using the plugin. I understand that the objects will no longer have as many limitations in the amount of polygon as now in this version. I have been in the world of 3d printing for 5 years and I use many programs to make photogrammetry and make duplicates of any object or part and this technology has really improved a lot. At least when I get the model I use an application to reduce a few million polygons because the 3d printer itself has a resolution that a super high definition object is not necessary. but hey that’s my opinion. With the new version of falcon and new protocols in the creation of models, this may change. so I can only say pure speculation and gossip.

@VIPER-0 Hey i start 3D printed formation in fews days !
i told about that cause i’m remember the campus formation center grift us printed machine and scanner. not bad machines ! and i have 1/48 models (alpha jet, SU 33, f-16, m2000, rafale and a lot off stuff doesn’t build) do you know what i mean ? ^^’ -
A 3D scanned model is very good to have the exact measures of the object! You have the correct size and shape so you can save a lot of time during the modeling. But for a game you have to have a good 3D topology of the model, so you have to recreate the object. This method called retopology.

When you manage to make the figures stick to the bed without additives, with the cold bed and with ABS filament, you are already graduated. Any help count on me. -

@VIPER-0 Thank you very much !!

@VIPER-0 Very nice !!
-
@hiuuz is it that ?
am i right ? -

retopology.
so, I could very well scan All the models that I have not built yet (su 33, f-16, f-18,
M-2000, EF2000, Rafale, Gripen, Alphajet, and so on) so I have all the spare parts. It is then necessary to move on to the retopology stage.? -
@Vespa Yes! I’m not an expert in 3D scanning, but as I know the scan contains tons of small triangle. That is not a problem if you need a static object for rendering, but if you want to use it in a game, it’s a horrible.
-
@hiuuz mmmmh… perhaps algorithme exist for that
-
@Vespa Yes, there are tools for that, but I’m not familiar with those. I’m just having some experience in Blender. Important is, how you animate the moving parts of the plane, eg ailerons, gears, doors. Normaly they are separate objects, with their own topology. So either ways you have to edit the model in some degree.
-
@hiuuz OK. Thanks for enlightening me. I was able to do some research with what you told me there.
I’m going to scan all the planes I have. Chance, they are at 1/48th with a lot of details. We’ll see if the BMS Devs will be interested. Otherwise I will make models at 1/6 radio controlled
-
@Vespa Do you know, what would be way more interesting? If you could get into a museum or plane on display and 3Dscan some real plane and cockpit
-
@hiuuz Yeah. hé hé hé. If i get that when i go to london air force museum. A take a photo from all weapons XD
so, i’m sure with Scale model we can have a good 3D model
-
I don’t think 3D scanner would be useful. Probably baaaaably optimized 3D models would comes out from such brutal method (without big rework/post processing). Would not add more quality and would probably add much more works.
But better let 3D artist and GFX coders/gurus answering that question. -
@Dee-Jay yes, I would line to know more. I’m motivate !
-
Hello,
In fact… It could be really useful.
It was done in the past on DCS, and there is ways to decrease automatically the level of triangles to get something nice.
However, it requires some specific knowledges to make it work.

guys, do you know if Fusion 360 software can be usefull ?
