Runway + Cockpit HD textures
-
Hi all
newcomer here, started playing BMS when 4.37 dropped. I’ve scoured the forum for quite a long time, but I was not able to find any recent link to some improved Runway textures to replace the standard ones in KTO / Balkans / MiddleEast / EMF / ITO
All I’ve found was this topic
https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/21560/hd-runway-ramp-textures
which seems to be dated to v4.35, and a reply near the end mentions that the files may need an update for 4.36. I’ve not found any dds tho, only a bunch of links to png’s. Does it mean I have to convert them manually to DDS with GIMP? Which parameters do I need to use in order to try (please be aware that I am a total noob regarding texture formats)?
The only other alternative I was able to find with some google fu was this old topic from the benchmarksims forum by @Arty
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?19737-Runways-Taxiways-High-Resolution-Textures
It seems the links provided in the thread for 4.33.2 worked up to 4.35, then nothing more is reported. Is anyone able to tell me if and how I can make them work in 4.37? I’ve already dealt with JanHas models, so I got a bit of the grasp about BMS modding (incl. JSGME)
Also, are there updated HD/4k/8k cockpit textures for bl. 40/42/50/52/52+? It seems to me the 4.36 versions required a bit of work due to the new ECM panel. Is there an up-to-date resource list I can look at?
many thanks

@CloudWallace1981 well you can try them out and then inform the ppl here.

I would love to, but I don’t know where to start from, I had a look at the contents of your HD runways textures file from back in the days, and it is “just” a bunch of numbered dds. I was expecting that, but what I was not expecting was that the numbers of the dds did not match anymore with the contents of the KoreaObj and KoreaObj_HiRes folders.
I presume that in order to “try” them in 4.37.1 I should basically try and find the “new” matching dds file in the basic BMS texture folders (probably just by looking at the thumbnails and trying to find an identical, but “low res”, one) and rename the modded one with the “new” number.
E.g.: let’s say I have a file named 855.dds (I’m making numbers up) from your “old” collection which is a piece of HD rwy, and instead in 4.37.1 the new 855.dds is just trees (or building, or whatever else). After digging a bit I find that the matching picture in the new files is called 2501.dds, so I rename 855 to 2501 and use that in JSGME. Is this everything I need to do?

@CloudWallace1981 I believe so…
I don’t maintain it anymore as I’m focused on other things.
I’m sure many things have changed…
New airports addition which means that some textures are obsolete or used for other features now.
but as you say comparing my texture set with current ones and replacing matching ones is the way.
Just keep a backup of your folder first in case something goes wrong. -
I’ll have a shot at it over the weekend, since I fear it could turn out to be a bloodbath
do you know if your HD textures have been used by the dev team to be incorporated in some “default” asset?
