Where to start

Is there any article or post about how to start to modify a plane?
How database looks like, what is what in the files, how different files releated to each other and what are those files. My focus is on an existing plane with already unique cockpit, but with Viper avionics. That what is in my consern: avionics and HUD.
Maybe it seems a bit ambitious, but I will have time in the winter.
Oh, and is it worth to start learn the existing stuff or 4.38 will change “everything”?

The question is not to modify but more, what are you trying to accomplish?

@MaxWaldorf At the moment the aim is a bit foggy but I would like to improve (or help others to improve) Tornado cockpit. In the first place I would like to gather information to decide that have I the ability to work on it at all. I’m not afraid to learn, have a very bit idea from previous experiences, so eg. I would like to know how HUD symbology works.
At the moment works anybody on Tornado?

@hiuuz beyond a handful of on/off elements in the aircraft dat files, and some user cfg like rpm/brakes, I don’t think you’ll be able to significantly change the HUD rendering, without changing C++ code within BMS

@airtex2019 Oh, so that is an important answer. Sometimes I play with basic arduino programming, but complex things are beyond my capabilities. Then this winter I should learn C++ and after 4.38 released can be Tornado approached

@hiuuz I’m afraid you misunderstood me … the work the BMS team is doing currently, eg. on F-15C to allow new HUD, new radar and other MFD screens… that is not public, open-source code. that work is just internal refactoring, to make it possible for the BMS devs to easily build other aircraft avionics displays – but there isn’t any plan or “plugin interface” for community extensions. not that I have heard announced.
Cockpits can be modified… also flight-model parameters, along with a pretty long list of optional capabilities like drag-chutes and variable-geometry wings, can all be modeled in the declarative dat files. That’s how we have the Tornado we currently have…
But you specifically mentioned HUD, so just wanted to set your expectations appropriately.

@airtex2019 Yes, now that is clear that things what I looking for, is not for public. Hmm, then that is what it is now. I didn’t look into it but I guess the Tornado flight model is based on the Flight Manuals of the Italian variants, which are available to the public.
Thanks the answer anyway!
