TE Editor - Package Priority
-
I have an old guide from 2004 that says:
“not particularly relevant to tactical engagements and should be left as priority A.”The BMS Manual says it’s an option, but nothing behind its purpose or impact. Has there been any change to this in…20 years?
-
So I says to myself, “Self, what does the original Falcon 4.0 manual say about this?”
Sure enough, the old girl gave her secrets, as least as far as what the purpose is:
(I assume it’s not used for TE’s since there’s typically only 1 “main” package anyway)Now that MicroProse has the license again, maybe these old docs should be re-included again in the install?
This one was dug out of the legacy 4.33 “Falcon 4 Legacy Manuals” Docs. -
@boomer The Falcon 4 manual is also included with the Steam install of Falcon 4. Maybe with the GOG version as well ?
-
@jayb Yes, I just check my GoG install and it’s there…
I guess I was just hoping it would be added back so it’s caught in the new “BMS Manual Search” tool you released (thanks!).I see there is a way to customize the search params in your tool, but the ManualList.cfg file doesn’t provide a way to search “other” file paths outside of the BMS install.
Feature request?

That’s an interesting idea. I should point out that it is generally frowned upon to rely on information from the old Falcon 4.0. But these are the steps you could follow (I just did and it works):
-
I copied my old Falcon 4.0 manual into a subfolder under the 4.37 docs. The pdf file is called Manual.pdf. You can of course change the filename of the copy to eg. F4Manual.pdf
-
Then I added a line with “Manual.pdf” (without the quotes) to Config\ManualList.cfg
-
Finally, I rebuilt my index and tested with a search for “ccip”
Note that the old manual unfortunately does not contain pdf sections, that’s why there is only NA as section information. In my opinion that degrades the usability a bit if you search for very broad terms. If you are more accurate than “ccip” you will get fewer results and might be able to live with the NAs

@jayb Nice workaround, thanks again!
