In HUD, how to get little arrow ended boxes beside altitude/speed tapes?
-
Hi. When I fire up my falcon, I notice in my HUD that I have two tapes running down each side…one for altitude and one for speed. What I don’t have are the rectangular pointed ended boxes in the middle outside of each tape with a digital reading if speed/altitude. I’m wondering why and what I need to set in the cickpit/elsewhere to get them. After tapes and the digital readout in my HUD.
thanks.

Well, the easy way is to fly an F-16 that is meant to have those boxes. Try a block 40 or 50.
The slightly harder way is to pick a type of F-16 you want to fly, and use the avionics configurator to add the boxes to it, even if it is not meant to have them.

TO-BMS1F-16CM-1 p101, Vertical velocity scale (VV/VAH)
Placing the switch to OFF turns off display of the HUD scales. The current values for velocity and altitude are then displayed in boxes. Heading is not displayed.

That doesnt actually answer the OPs question. He has the tapes - he wants the boxes.
The VV/VAH switch can switch the tapes off and display just the boxes, or it can switch the boxes and tapes on, or it can display the tapes, the boxes and the additional VV tape. It does not to my knowledge let you turn the boxes on when you have just the scales.

If he wants the digital readouts that’s the way to get them if they’re not already displayed. If he wants both and the block/version doesn’t support that then it’s a choice of one or the other.
Avionics Configurator should be approached with caution and a backup of your install made, just in case.

I thought older blocks had those boxes too. Check this video at 2:35:
This is a block 30 of Ohio ANG and it has the boxes in the hud.
Another thing I noticed in the hud is the airspeed? Acceleration or slowing down in 4.32 was in steps of a few knots at a time to reflect more realistic speed indication, ie accelerating from 400 kts in steps like 403, 404, 408, 411 etc. In 4.33 every knot of speed increase is shown again. Did the F-16 go through another update that it now shows it like this? No big deal, just curious.

Block 30 is still a charlie model. Fly an A or B and you can see the scales w/o boxes.

True, but I was flying a TE with a Block 32 and also got the scales w/o the boxes.

Block don’t mean anything, it’s a question of software generation. We have pretty good doc about it ;).
