F-16 Block new naming conventions
-
Good day,
hope this was not brought up before.
I keep wondering about the new naming conventions for F-16s.
Like
F-16DM Block 40, used to be F-16DG Block 40
F-16DM 50 and so on
F-16CM BLock 50 was simply F-16CJ Block 50 or F-16C Block-…
F-16s had no “M” designations in earlier sources I read. What about it, is that a new official designation?
I recall when e.g. F-16CJs where officially called F-16CJs for USAF single seat Vipers based in Germany 2-3 years ago and now the conventions in BMS confuse me.Thanks.
I knew:
F-16A (various Blocks)
F-16B (Various Blocks)
F-16C+ (Block 30/32 Vipers, upgraded or not)
F-16CG (Block 40/42=Lantinr Vipers)
F-16CJ (Block 50/52=latest pre advanced USAF in service Vipers)
F-16AM + letter name of country
F-16MLU (Same, upgraded F-16)
F-16DJ
F-16GD
F-16C new Blocks (52+/60 etc…)And of course the F-16IAF versions, Indian AIr Force and HAF/TAF designations along the various MLU terms…but here I am lost.

Short answer; CM are block 40 to 52 in the USAF modified by Common Configuration Implementation Program (CCIP)
The only official designations for the US by the DOD 4120.15L manual are F-16A, B, C, D and N, YF-16A and B, NF-16A and D and TF-16N. USAF, for example only have F-16C or D. CG, CJ, CM, etc are not official designations. More of a technical manual designations.

Thanks mvsgas. Makes sense since the new BMS versions also have the HMCS e.g. as part of upgrades. Did not know about the official conventions TBH.
