Flight spoilers on the tanker aircraft
-
I’ve noticed that the flight spoilers on both tankers remain in the up position after the tanker has established his bank angle for the turn. Of course, that would never happen IRL, otherwise the tanker would continue to roll and not maintain a constant bank angle in the turn. Yes, there is a very small amount of spoiler float as the pilot/autopilot tries to maintain bank angle, but for the most part once the bank angle is set the flight spoilers streamline with the top of the wing. I like the affect, maybe just have them up when the tanker is establishing a bank angle during refueling, then have them retract. The degree to which they are shown in the up position is excessive. That amount of deflection would indicate the pilot is commanding a very rapid roll rate, so I think it would look more realistic if the spoilers came up only about half that amount, and only while establishing the bank angle. Can you tell me which tanker? KC-135 or KC-10 or both?

It’s the -135 only. Just refueled with both, the -135 spoilers remain up during both left and right turns.

Keep in mind that the tanker doesn’t have AFM, it has OFM…this may be why the control surfaces are commanded to odd-looking positions compared to what reality would dictate.

Also do note that many large swept wing aircraft are laterally stable, and actually require bank input to maintain a set bank angle…
