Tacview – Understand what happened during your last flight! (alternative ACMI viewer)

Hello,
I try to edit database, i add an .xml file in Data/Database/Default Properties (Default Properties didn’t exist, i create it).
But when i load an existing or a new tacview report, objects didn’t appear with correct new properties.
I don’t know what is wrong ?
Example:

Hi,
Your XML is correct. Did you place this XML file in %PROGRAMDATA%\Tacview\Data\Database\Default Properties\ ? Is the SA-10 object appearing? If so, make sure you have selected the Display SAM/AAA Lethal Range button on the bottom and scroll way out to see the dome since it is 111 km wide.
If the SA-10 object is not appearing please share your ACMI file.

For some reason I can’t open the attachments but I got your ACMI file which is the most important. I notice that the SA-10 only spawns at about 16:11 into the file per the playback control bar. After that time, I can see the dome and the object.
When the object is greyed out in the object drop down menu it means it has not yet spawned and you can SHIFT+CLICK on it to jump to the time that it spawns at.
If you still can’t see the object and dome please share a screenshot like mine that shows the whole Tacview window so I can check various settings.

Yes, but the dome dimension is incorrect (0,5 nm !) for an SA-10 (in game 50 to 60 nm !)
I try custom by range with specific entry (in Database), but did’nt work

I am looking for a way to set the focus point to be the midpoint between two selected targets.
Currently I have my aircraft as primary (the box top left) and the aircraft I am engaging as the secondary (the box top right). The focus of the Tacview window is on my aircraft so the enemy aircraft is all the way to the edge of the screen with lots of uninteresting empty space to the other side of the screen.

Hi,
Enable Dogfight Mode by clicking on the icon of two aircraft which appear between the selected object dropdowns. The button is activated if the aircraft icons appear in red and blue instead of grey. Make sure “Centered” is selected.

Can I add a unit color other than Blue, Red, Orange, Green, and Violet?
I’d like to set unit colors in Hex like #33FFFA (RRGGBB).This is because I’d like to separate color by role: Escort, SEAD, Striker, etc
I’d also like launched weapons to refer to its launcher’s color (If launcher color changed, then weapon launched or dropped by the launcher changes to the same color). -

It is currently not possible to have any colour other than the 5 available colours. This is on our list of improvements for a future update of Tacview 2.0.

I am unable to get the Tacview map to match the map in BMS 4.35, I see others had similar issues with the DB that they were able to resolve, but I cant get the map to update. As you can see in the attached the Tacview map does not display the updated 4.35 IAF “Solyi” for Sachon, and probably various others that were updated in 4.35. I updated the xml file as shown in the attached and even tried loading it to the default properties but still no luck. Will I just have to wait until an updated version of tacview to get the map updated? I am running 1.8.6 beta5

You will not be able to update the actual bitmap using those techniques. I will look for an updated map and add it to Tacview in a future update. Thanks for letting me know.

As the pace of development on Tacview 2.0 increases, Tacview 1.8 is switching more and more to maintenance mode.
However, Tacview 1.8 is still a great test bed for experimenting with simplified versions of new features. As such, this update still brings cool new tools along the usual quality of life improvement and bug fixes.
For example, whenever it is supported by your flight simulator and your aircraft, you can now display the flight controls position as well as the pilot sight. Together with the optional display of aircraft course, you have now all the tools to analyze the exact behavior of the pilot and pinpoint habits to improve stick and rudder skills.
As usual, the Lua SDK has been considerably extended. For example, it is now possible to create real dialog boxes to directly interact with the user. If you are interested into creating Lua addons, feel free to share your work or ask for help on our discord channel!

Hello BuzyBee and Tacview
I would like to add Taiwan theater map into Tacview. I did the xml instruction but was getting error message saying that Tacview does not support 4.35 yet. Is there any suggestion how i could add Taiwan map into the Tacview?
