I drop my GBU-24s but they disappear before hitting the ground
-
This is really odd but I caught it on video.

… Try again M0.8 … and … below FL200.
(Do not rely on Tacview. It is not because it is disappearing on Tacview that the bomb has actually disappeared in game. Check with in-game ACMI viewer.)

BTW … if (?) one day we can implement surface albedo and/or target shapes and/or laser traps and/or laser spot diffraction, and/or laser fuse initiator … guys, you will have much more troubles employing Paveway bombs …

Below 20,000 feet AGL puts me in missile range….
Ah.
The reason for GPS guided weapons!
-
… I am just suggesting you to try. There is a max alt where laser starts to be too much attenuated, but I do not remember the limit.
In any cases, in game as IRL, GBUs are not 100% … we have to expect miss sometimes, hard to be sure why.

Old TGPs had a problem with altitudes above 24,000’ due to atmospheric effects, some kind of static electricity generated? Although 24,000’ is nearly four miles and this would make a slant range of perhaps 6 miles which might approach the reasonable range of a round trip laser. Of course as the bomb falls the round trip distance (laser energy is sensitive to this length to the fourth power) decreases rapidly.
I would recommend you check the VHS in Falcon 4 itself since TacView is not as reliably in its reporting.
