Request for information about TWX format
-
I’ve been working on a new version of WeatherGen (thread here), my BMS weather generator. It should be out in a single-digit number of time units. The first version only creates FMAPs based on my weather model. The new version will have a host of new features, and I’d like to include the ability to generate a TWX file, as that’s where things like cloud density and cloud and contrail heights are set.
We’ve been using WeatherGen a bunch over at the 1st, and it has added a nice element of variability to missions. Recently, I’ve also been trying to remember to vary the global weather settings (the info in the TWX file) before each mission, and a few people have commented on how cool some of the effects you can get are. I’d really like WeatherGen to also provide this as “one stop shopping” for creating interesting, evolving, variable weather. I think integrating this with WeatherGen makes more sense than having people manually edit the global weather settings in the 2D map separately.
Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find any documentation on the format of the TWX file. I’ve started to reverse engineer it, but there are a few things in there that I don’t currently understand. So if a dev or anyone else with knowledge of the file would be willing to educate me, I would be grateful. A header file, a pointer to code in any language, paragraph or two, some documentation…I’d appreciate anything.
I’m only interested in generating TWX files for map model weather, and I’m not really interested in messing with the turbulence settings at this point, so I mostly only care about the parts of the file that have to do with the first tab and the Clouds tab, in case that helps.
Thanks!

Lightning’s tools might help you out: http://svn.assembla.com/svn/lightningstools/trunk/F4Utils/Campaign/Save/TwxFile.cs
