F15E Setting the Altimeter Question
-
I don’t know how to readily set the altimeter (I mean the QNH for the altimeter) in the F15E. I can manually adjust the altimeter up and down via [SHIFT] + [CTRL] + [;] and [‘] 5 degrees at a time or [SHIFT] + [ALT] + [;] and [‘] 1 degree at a time but it’s slow (unlike using the mouse wheel while hovering over the pressure adjustment knob in the F16 cockpit) and you can’t see the pressure setting itself in the F15E all you see is the result on the altimeter. Thus, you have to use the elevation on your airport map to set your altimeter (to the best of my knowledge). Am I missing something.

The F-15 cockpit might not have clickable zones for the altimeter Kalman knob. I don’t see it in the 3dbuttons.dat for 864. You’ll have to use key binds.
I assume you mean HSI course or heading knob changes. The new system does away with the 1 deg / 5 deg and uses an acceleration factor which is designed for the wheel on a mouse. By default the 1 and 5 degree both do the 1 degree function now. I think there’s a config line which controls the multiplication factor and/or the acceleration so that it’s more usable when you aren’t using the mouse wheel to input that.

Hi Frederf:
Thanks for your response. Yeah I don’t see adjustment knob near the dial altimeter. I don’t know what it’s called. See page 43 of the -1. I think they call it a pressure adjustment knob?
But setting the QNH is just part of the problem. The other part is that if you do use the keybinds to change the altitude the altimeter is displaying – the problem is I can’t see the QNH number I am trying to put in (i.e. 3059 is what I always seem to get at Kimpo and Seoul). In the F16 pit I just turn the knob and I can see not only the adjusted altitude on the altimeter, but also the 3059 barometric adjustment setting. See page 43 of the -1. I don’t see any visual for the barometric adjustment setting in the F15E. I apologize that I don’t know exactly what that knob and display is called.
I do not mean HSI course or heading knobs. I can visually verify the changes I make to the HSI when I use those keybinds. I haven’t been really tinkering with it much because I have been flying off the HSD, but I suspect there that I can’t interact with the center MFD to punch in course or heading. If that’s right then I’ll have to use the keybindings for that, which is okay I guess but it sure is slow. Thanks.

Right, you’d want to see the value. The old timer way is to set the altimeter equal to the known field elevation. Not all cockpits are the same quality I guess.
You used “degrees” before which made me think you were also talking about the HSI.

WHOOPS my bad I should not have said degrees. But yeah, setting the altimeter to match the field elevation is what I have been doing! But darn it, it’s slow and so I was wondering if I was missing something. Thanks!
