Thanks all of you for the answers. Actually I was not looking for a map that shows all the units and ennemies, that would kill the beauty of the immersion and surprises that I discover with great pleasure in BMS. No, as an aviator, I always fly with a map, I would love to have a map (I can figure out myself where I am) to consult the geography of my surroundings etc… a map where I could plot a lake or a bay or a town and find it with my eyes in the cockpit as a reference. T-C could you elaborate on what you were talking about? (I have never used WDP…)

RE: Single Player Campaign Radio and Comms problems (questions?)
Thanks SemplerPDX for the great description! I might give it a try! In my perception I dont need a voice command to close the canopy or other things that I would do with my hands anyway in the cockpit, but the AI comms sound like a very attractive option for more immersion.

Thanks again Stalker, you are a very good teacher!
Lorik, you are right I haven’t gotten around to using Discord… I will look into it.

RE: Single Player Campaign Radio and Comms problems (questions?)
OK Stalker, I will take you up to it!!! It might encourage me to pursue to study all this!
We have a 3 hour time difference (I am currently ZULU minus 4 in Montreal and I think Portland is Z-7 no?).
Do you have some time a bit later today? any time in the next few hours is ok with me.
I can download TeamSpeak3 as you said and we can give it a try? -
RE: Single Player Campaign Radio and Comms problems (questions?)
Hi SemlerPDX.
The wind check becomes ESSENTIAL when you land a real airplane! Last week with my humble Cessna I practiced cross-wind landings on a very windy day! I was landing on RWY 20 and the wind was constantly shifting from 25 to 30 with quite a lot of gusts (average 18 knots gusting 25)… I did 10 (yes TEN) touch and gos and every one was different because of the shifting winds… some of them were those textbook crabbing, followed by the traditional side slip and landing on one wheel before finally letting the other wheel fall on the RWY… the infamous three axis dance!!! of course it is much less delicate in BMS (or any sim… perhaps X-Plane does the best at attempting to replicate that…).What did you mean by ‘the old chatterbox’ ??? Is there a way to give the radio calls with our voice instead of this (pretty un-immersive) keyboard key pushing and menus flipping?
thanks

RE: Single Player Campaign Radio and Comms problems (questions?)
Hi guys! Thanks for the answers, that is what I was thinking as well…
As far as flying with real players (experienced) it is a bit scary both because I still have to learn so many things to be minimally efficient in the F-16 and also because I always see multiplayer like a very difficult thing to plan time wise…
Perhaps Stalker I will take you up to your offer and try something in multiplayer with you at some point, just to see how it works…
What is the required software to play multiplayer? (I do have a nice Headset with microphone), is there native comms built in BMS or we need an external program? (and how to set it up?) And how to set an MP engagement?
(I have not searched the manuals specifically for that…)
Never been too adventurous about MP… -
Single Player Campaign Radio and Comms problems (questions?)
I am a relatively newcomer (although I have lots of experience in DCS and I am a real Pilot as well) and I have a few questions about comms.
I find the new ATC quite good and realistic, handling you from Ground Taxi instructions, to Tower Takeoff clearance, to Departure, etc… and on the way back from Approach to Tower to Ground, this is all very nice.
There are lots of option to manage one’s Wingman or Flight or Element, that is all very nice as well.
But there are a few things I dont understand.-
AI wingman behavior: if we are approaching some ennemies, it will always want to attack on its own… therefore I hit (5) Weapons Hold… He answers ‘two’… fine. A couple minutes later he attacks again??? I dont seem to get how to manage my wingman really well?? I ask him to REJOIN, he answers ‘Two’ but stays 40 NM away… I found many incongruities like this in the wingman comms behavior, any hint to correct this? how to manage best?

ATC: if I ask a ‘Wind check’ (which I do ask ATC often in my own real airplane) it will always give me the right wind direction but a wrong speed. A couple seconds later when ATC clears me to land it automatically gives me the same wind direction but now with a different (and probably the right) wind speed ??? how is that possible?
Another annoying ATC thing: if TOWER tells me to LINE UP AND WAIT (which happens often in real life as well), you cannot take off, you have to wait… but the next instruction to eventually take off never comes… and I have to hit the ATC menu READY FOR DEPARTURE once again, and LO, right away I get a takeoff clearance… ???
-
AWACS : this is probably the most annoying aspect. Firstly, why isn’t there a REQUEST BOGEY DOPE item? it is soooo useful…?
Also, when I bug a return on my radar and ask DECLARE, very often AWACS will start giving the BRAA for 3 different groups before answering my (pressing) DECLARE question… is there a way around? -
Identifying WHO is talking??? OK, now with the new radios presets, I understand that I will only hear what is on the set frequeny (which is realistic and great!). I took the habit to tune VHF to preset 15 (if we are the first flight of the PKG of course) and UHF to preset 6 (AWACS and ‘TACTICAL’ ???) does that mean that I should only hear comms between MY flight and AWACS or all flights of the PKG and AWACS or somebody else? Often, in the heat of battle, I hear some ‘FOX 3’ or RTB, etc… but often there are no callsigns so I dont know who is talking??? (some voice unfortunately)… when on preset 6 (UHF) would I hear other PKGs as well? for sure, with VHF preset 15 I should not even hear the other flights in my Own PKG no? so how come I hear so many other AIs???
So my following question is : I want to be the most efficient possible in gaining and maintaining SA on the battlefield while managing my own flight… what are the best comms strategies to achieve that with the relative shortcomings of the actual radios and comms system in BMS? (and dont get me wrong, I find the whole thing quite good and immersing, but just a bit difficult to use well…)
Thanks so much and forgive my many questions, I am trying to learn quicly this great beast!!!
JEFX out!

RE: Confessions of an old timer (hooked again!)
Thanks for the offer Stalker, I might definitely need it (although I have some homework to do before that to learn or relearn all the systems etc…)
Thanks for the hint Icer, I am looking forward to the surprise!!!
