RE: Falcon BMS 4.33 U4 - Incremental Installer Screw Up
Great to hear that the issue is gone ! And yeah, make a restore point for sure, you might never know when you will need one… and a back up image disk is a great idea too, when things go bonkers. Saved many peoples data over the years. You might want to do that every month or so, or set it up so windows will do that automatically for you.
Trust me, spending a hour for this now beats spending a week re-installing windows and recovering data.

RE: Falcon BMS 4.33 U4 - Incremental Installer Screw Up
Hey man, sorry to hear that.
You might try this guide here, i hope it helps !
https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/601496-every-exe-opens-in-7zip-well-almost-every/
Let me know if it works or not.
Oh, also THIS : https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/38kuzb/my_exe_files_are_opening_with_7zip/
That should do the trick and you won´t have to reinstall the PC.

RE: BMS Community size: just how big is our community anyways?
I like the idea of a VFS, but I’m not really interested in joining one until I get my cockpit finished - and maybe that’s a bit of the problem. Committing to build a cockpit is a long-term, high $$$ task…I find a lot of exchange and dedication amongst cockpit builders, but seemingly fewer of them than “gamers”. For the obvious reasons.
For me, it is more a thing of anxiety of sorts to join a VFS. I don´t know if i can be as commited as other members, and am limited by time quite a bit. During the week i might just have two or three hours to play, one or two times a week, and have yet so much to learn to be at least a bit productive in a group. And i dont think that any VFS would commit their time to teach a newbie the basics, just to see him one time per week. I have so much going on that at the moment, that i have no clue if i would really be able to commit as much as i would like. But that might just be me…

RE: BMS Community size: just how big is our community anyways?
Agreed, i can´t speak for every dev team, and i am not fond of casual games, yet… i actively work with them, work ON them… but that is the difference between a job, and a hobby, isn´t it ? You get paid for it, and it takes your freedom away, quite much. Here, there is no limit as to what the community can, or can not do. If you take it as a hobby, and work on it purely for the love of the project, and dedication… that is a win. I myself have a pitch for a game and can see the gigantic gap between what i have to do, and what i love to do. As long as it stays a hobby, something you love… untill then there is no rest for the wicked, no end to a project (preferably, since reaching a point of perfection might no be possible at all…) and can be expanded upon, untill you reach the point where the source will no longer be compatible and break down.
BMS should stay a Viper sim, sure its cool to fly other frames but… i agree that the hearth is the F-16 and it should stay like this. But opinions might be different, and if there are dedicated people that want to add a pitch perfect F-15 ? Hell, do it.
Esports, competitions, leaderboards… not my cup of coffe. I would much rather help my teammates and cooperate than grab kills, do crazy “lone-wolf” actions and such. But sure, there might be players that get a kick from being the “Ace of the Base”.
I still don´t get what people mean by the graphics, they look darn good to me… might be because i don´t play as much modern games like i used to, or just my simple minimalistic style that i prefer… it serves its purpose.

RE: New wings, and greenhorn mistakes
Don’t worry fuel leaks are not coded (yet ;))
Oh thank god ! I mean… oh no! how bad ! No but actually that would be a cool feature. I would think twice about ejecting then…

RE: New wings, and greenhorn mistakes
Thanks guys !
Yeah, well, even hit i was still on course back, pretty precisely so i choose to risk a bit and get back the bird… not much navigation was done, actually since it was really just a long straight line back to base. I was just affraid to explode on my way back, or loose the rest of my fuel i had and go bingo over the shore… i could still eject, but i think the bird would in the case of a explosion just pop like a balloon. But i rather bring her back, if it is possible.
Yep, there where some Sams in the area, SAM5 and some SAM2 i think. But i really just popped without a warning, pretty fast. Maybe i set up my RWR wrong ? or it shot me behind my back… now that would be qute a asshole move!
I actually did not know that in the debrief i could see that, thanks for the tip guys. I will activate the ACMI next time still, since i would really love to see what hit me. At least my wingman could warn me, sheesh… perhaps he got down before me. Serves him right since he did not even damage the darn site…
I really try to learn as much as i can, and i think i can do some missions at least now… still a long way to go. But A-G is really great, love it… not much a fan of A-A combat… never was actually. But i can protect myself in the case the AI fails me again…

RE: BMS Community size: just how big is our community anyways?
VR could be the future, probably even is, but it will take a few years untill they are avaliable for common folk, and will work properly, without giving you a headache after a few minutes. I am really looking forward to them… had the pleasure to use some, and it was a pretty cool experience.
On the other hand… can you imagine having a home made pit, VR googles AND direct hand movement in the game ? Sure you would have to sell a kidney for that kind of stuff but i mean… you have two, right ?!

RE: BMS Community size: just how big is our community anyways?
Well, if i might add something into this…
I am not only from the younger generation (born in ´93) but also work in the gaming industry. And well, sims don´t pay out anymore. It´s quite the same with tactical shooters. Yes you see players that are craving for new sims like the Janes series, Falcon, or shooters like SWAT 3 or the good ol´ Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. But these are not trendy, nor flashy, nor user friendly. Most companies, including the one i work in, do what they love, sure. Games… but… the situation is difficult. The market is oversaturated, trends come and go, and every developer needs money. To pay your people, to pay for the development, and to exist in a market that is as hostile as any other open market… but the majority of players, casuals to regular players to the hardcore, just don´t seem to be interested, and modern developers don´t take ANY risks, and do only what is trendy and what will work. Open World games, survival games, and the cover/First Person shooters. Simulations are not dead, sure they are not, but are niche games just like point-and-click adventures, which too, are not dead. Its just that they are niche games… games evolved, people changed, trends are different…
There is a buttload of “shovelware” simulators for mundane things like Forklifts and Police sims, made in germany most of the time, since the market there is different…
I grew up with simulation games. I loved them since the first i ever played. But the learning curve might kill anyone, who expects a reward for every little thing they do. Which is what those kids, MY generation, grew up with. Games then rewarded you for every little thing, which is psychologically great, you feel exited, and it is simple enough to win. Schools, movies, ale do the same. Rewards for everything, lens flares and flashy visuals, everything stimulating your brain to consume.
Take BMS, you get smacked in the face with data, books, research material, need a flightstick, and in the first hours you will want to tear your face down with rusty nails. But… then you come back from your first mission… and wow, that feeling ? that is addictive.
So, my generation has the attention span of a goldfish, is egocentric, and dumb as bread left to mold. Do you want these players ? No. You want the dedicated ones. Those that invest time to learn how to fly this monstrosity.
Less is more my friends!
Enough rambling anyways. Sorry for the wall of text. And sorry for my english, again… im doing my best.

RE: New wings, and greenhorn mistakes
Greenhorn strikes again !
Finally moved, all my things are where they belong, and i am slowly setteling in… well, as much as you can in a new place anyways. Still have no place for my models, but that can wait.
So, i have set up my rig, again, and played the weekend trough… sad to say i have now around 6 hours of flight on my back after this weekend, and expected to say : i can do things now, flashy things! truth is, i can´t do shit ! well, i can but… anyways.
I flew the training missions, perfected my landings with the new stick, played around with the controlls, learned how to use HARMs and laser guided bombs… and yeah, actually managed to look up how to engage NWS again, and that the laser is set to training and not combat mode. Figures that my bombs flew everywhere except the target area. After that i flew the first mission in the new campaign, Balkans, since i love that pretty much… AI Strike on a Coal Processing Plant. Should be easy right ? Well, it was… went there, dropped the load, it actually striked where i wanted it to, and i was super happy to return home. Well, on my route back to base, something hit me. Now i have no idea if it was a SAM, or some enemy aircraft that striked me, since i did not went down in flames, but was smoking hard, flying on fumes. I really have no idea what happened. I flew, betty was screaming for a second, and when i went to check what the hell happened, my MFDs went black, my hud was gone, and i was suddenly pretty much alone.
Well, i was still on course, i flew low and slow, trying desperately to get home, found my base and actually managed to land. Somehow. i had some issues navigating over the water but still managed to navigate myself back… well, mission accomplished, still.
I am still awe struck as to what hit me, so fast i could not even blink… I was pretty low, i think, so it might have been a SAM. Don´t remember, and my ACMI was off… well, that is what i get for not sticking to the manuals…
Anyways, after 6 hours of gameplay, i am still a greenhorn as i was before, but hey. I made progress, and came back in one, or more pieces. Dripping sweat all the time behind the seat… this sim is killing and torturing me. Yet i still like it just for that…
I will now return to my stick, and do a similliar mission again, this time with ACMI on… see you above the clouds next time boys ! Hopefully with better results and not “burning and blind” like this time…
