@Seifer - Thanks! I did notice that the issue seems to subside as I got further from the airbase. When I took off, the issue went away, and I didn’t see any more artifacts/tearing. In the interim, I will implement the fixes you listed.
Thanks again! I appreciate the insight, time, and responses!
@Seifer - I think I have found the correct file(s). They’re from:
[…]\Falcon BMS 4.37\Data\Campaign
Here’s a link to the Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1RFYe1Igy7lyvEvidxuYnM8tfJuX6sPAL?usp=share_link
If I did not capture the correct file(s), please let me know.
The first flight at the top of the frag order (DEAD) is the one where I am encountering the issue.
Thanks!
@Seifer - I was able to reproduce the issue again. The thing I changed was re-enabling the blocked “Gamepad Support” add-on in SteamVR. The only thing that had changed between the issue and not experiencing that issue was that add-on being blocked.
New Video here:
Question: What exact file do you need? This is a campaign mission. I’m happy to share via GoogleDrive if I know what I am looking for.
Thanks!
@Seifer - I recorded a new video with the FPS counter. Interestingly, I didn’t expect to see such low frames. Then again… VR.
Please see the link here:
What’s odd is that it was happening all morning, and I was unable to reproduce it for the newest video because the issue seemed to [somehow] resolve itself.
Note: Steam VR had an issue with a plugin at some point during my session, and it restarted and disabled the [standard?] plugin - “Gamepad Support,” or something along those lines. Following the closure of that SteamVR component, the issue seems to have gone away, for now. I’m not sure if there is a connection there or not.
Having resolved some other minor issues, I have been able to get BMS 4.37 running in VR on my Quest 2, using the link cable, of course.
However, I noticed something strange as of this morning. When looking over my right shoulder, my VR headset starts to flicker and tear. The image will flicker to pink, black, and then return to normal after simply re-centering my head.
See my quick video of the issue on YouTube here:
Has anyone else encountered this issue? Anyone have a solution? This has been relatively consistent, and I am unsure of the cause.
@Spearhead - Thanks! That fixed it. I’m glad it was something so simple.
I just fired up 4.37 with my Quest 2, and I noticed that for some reason, it insists on placing the VR POV (camera) outside of the cockpit, no matter what I do. I’ve played with resolutions, looked through the manuals, and I have no idea why it’s not putting me in the cockpit.
This is what I see when I load into any flight.
Anyone have a similar experience or have any idea what the problem could be?
If you like to try, add the line into this file:
BMS\User\Config*Falcon BMS.cfg*
Thanks! I knew what file, but I wasn’t sure exactly where in the file. I think I figured it out, and I am pleased to say that I was able to get through a mission without a single freeze while using the radio.
Thanks for the help!
If game is unplayable for you, you can try adding this to your cfg file:
set g_sPriorityFixes "-0x8000000000000"
This will probably stop the deadlocks, but will cause some CTDs eventually. But if you are always getting the freezes, I think it is better to get a CTD eventually.
Thanks! I will give this a try. I was going to ask…
What is the primary cause of these hang-ups? I did not used to have them at all. They just started happening one day, even after having 4.35U2 running perfectly fine since release. The only thing that changed on my system was a Windows update or two, so that is all I have to explain it. I had nearly perfect performance until a couple of weeks ago - with the [very] rare CTD on occasion.
EDIT: Where does that line of code go, exactly?
Confirmed, already fixed in U3. Thanks for sharing the DMP!
Thank you for looking it over! I will continue to try and “fly around it,” as I eagerly await U3.
Same issue in POH and KTO . . .
That really sucks. I am glad I am not the only one though. I had originally posted on one of the Facebook pages, and the consensus was to bring the issue here. It seems like it’s a little more common than I thought. What’s weird is that it’s relatively new. I’ve been running my KTO, Israeli, and Balkans campaigns on 4.35U2 for quite a while, and the freezing just started.
I believe this is fixed for U3. Still, if you can provide a dmp for this I can take a look.
You can force DMP generation in deadlocks by following this (see point 3): https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?42473-Enabling-dump-files-at-all-times-MS-Application-Verifier-and-Frozen-dump-files
Thanks! I did manage to catch a hang-up and I created a dump file using the method in point 3. Here’s a link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Mlps5lyzFXzHZV5v4aqWuVHBJeUU-IrO/view?usp=sharing
I have recently noticed a trend in my campaign in the Israeli Theater. Radio calls to ATC and/or wingmen tend to cause the sim to hang and infinitely cycle a portion of the audio file being played at the time - e.g., the speech to/from ATC or my wingman. While the issue isn’t incredibly consistent, I have noticed that pattern as I make radio calls when I contact departure or when I tell my wingman to fence in/out. I have not had this happen in any other theater yet, but so far, it is pretty consistently happening in the Israeli Theater. The worst part is that it is relatively consistent in some of the longer missions, either causing a hand after a long ingress or shortly after takeoff as I restart from the last freeze.
Version
4.35.2 (x64)
Build
2383
Detailed Description
The sim freezes when using the radio to talk to AI ATC and/or AI wingman in the Israeli Theater.
Pictures
None
Example files
None, but I will add if I can capture it in a video.
Crash logs
None - The sim just hangs, and I have to exit via Task Manager.
Reproducibility Procedure
1. Set radio preset to either ATC or intraflight
2. Use radio commands
3. Sim freeze
Expected Behavior
Expect normal AI comms
I’m waiting for this too. The Israeli theater has always been one of my favorites!
