HMCS Fine Alignment with Warthog Throttle
-
@Chris-Jones Typically, we control HMCS through head-tracking software of some sort - you literally look at the thing you want. Could be as simple as a webcam or as high tech as a TrackIR unit, there are many options for head tracking. You might consider using the mouse to look around instead, because you could use a mouse like the G502 with a DPI shift hotkey which could lower the speed of moving the mouse for much finer control. IMHO, I don’t think using a POV HAT on a stick/throttle would ever be possible for fine alignment in a pinch.

@SemlerPDX I think he is not talking about using the ministick as moving the view. He is asking about HCMS alignment only

@Chris-Jones I think patience and practice should do just fine. Cheers!

Is it possible they are talking about the RADAR cursor? I have definitely experienced this cursor deciding to continue moving even if after I stop moving the control with my finger - rare, but I recognize that issue and it makes me think they are referring to this cursor, and not the helmet mounted cueing system.

@SemlerPDX sure 4he discussion is about the input device that is normally controlling the radar Cursor as this is the same to be used to do the HCMS alignment.

@Chris-Jones The default cursor control on the warthog is indeed poor for fine control (there is at least one mod you can buy to fix it). And yes you do need to slew the cursor during the ‘fine’ adjustment of the HMCS alignment process (after you have completed the coarse adjustment). @Stevie suggestion (increase the dead zone (in the SETUP, CONTROLLER, ADVANCED, AVIONICS page ) will stop it from moving when you are not touching it.
If you’re dead zone is not good enough, you will suffer other issues, for example not being to maintain a TGP or Maverick lock on objects.
Best to test the performance of the cursor from the windows game controllers.

@Fish44, setting a medium dead zone did the trick. I can control it well enough to get close on the HMCS alignment and the TGP and FCR weren’t overly affected. Hopefully Benchmark Sims improves on this at some point. Thanks to everyone who responded to my question.

@Chris-Jones Looks like you solved your issue but I have a Warthog too and found the default settings for the cursor too fast as well but solved it with the following lines added to the Falcon BMS User.cfg file. Not sure where I found this but it works for me.
// make the radar cursor thumbstick a little more manageable: set g_nAxisExp_AXIS_CURSOR_Y 60 // Axis exponential curve. Should be in 0|100 range. 0 is disabled set g_nAxisSat_AXIS_CURSOR_Y 0 // Axis saturation. Should be in 0|99 range. 0 is disabled set g_nAxisExp_AXIS_CURSOR_X 60 // Axis exponential curve. Should be in 0|100 range. 0 is disabled set g_nAxisSat_AXIS_CURSOR_X 0 // Axis saturation. Should be in 0|99 range. 0 is disabled

@Kavelenko Do not forget the keystroke:
shift + Y
RDR CURSOR - TOGGLE STOP MOVEMENT -
MapAxis(&Throttle, SCX, DX_X_AXIS); //X AXIS (Cursor X) SetCustomCurve(&Throttle, SCX, LIST(0,0, 10,40, 35,50, 65,50, 90,60, 100,100)); MapAxis(&Throttle, SCY, DX_Y_AXIS,AXIS_REVERSED);//Y AXIS (Cursor Y) SetCustomCurve(&Throttle, SCY, LIST(0,0, 10,40, 35,50, 65,50, 90,60, 100,100));
What’s the problem?
