An improvement for stock korea city tiles
-
@APOLLO:
Contrast looks fine to me!! Also consider (if possible) to create some low density building tiles for the surrounding heavy populated city areas!
Never liked the “square” image that cities present surrounded by green tiles (fields) in BMS…Totally agree.
Good work so far. -
These tiles are CCPP (cut copy paste paint), no blend. So, still WIP…

Looks very realistic! Keep up the good work!! Tiles are very photo realistic! The city limits remain square and extremely opposite to the surrounding coutry side!! I Understand it is still a WIP. See if you can add in a latter stage some lowest density building tiles to recreate suburb areas around the main city. Still very impressing compared to stock city tiles in Korea!!

Thanks, Apollo!
The tiles are from bing-maps with a 20m res, into 5000 px and the dds-file is 2048.
If you have a direct look you will notice that all streets are connected, because of the tiles are not blended, the are painted at the borders. But this needs so much time. If the tile is very compatible it needs a full day, but if not, I had one which needed 3 days. The advantage is, that one can replace small places in each tile without a great work. Even with the dds-file…These pics are from momentary 18 tiles and each one has its own look, no repetition. If all tiles are ready you will notice no repetition even with a really great city.

Amazing indeed!!! Didn’t realize the amount of work required!! Looking Good!!

Hi!
Yes, it is a lot work!
E.g.:
Map:
Tile:
But now there is a great issue!
Today I wanted to start with the harbour line, but I’m not able to get the default water into a new tile in 2048!
Or I take e.g. HCOST00F (256px) and put another layer (also 256px) as harbour, this works. But it looses many of sharpness, so IMHO a NoGo.
I had many tries today, but as far I change e.g. HCOST99F e.g. the size, I get black water.
(I’m using Paint.Net…)
Is there a chance, that someone can send me a default water tile, but in 2048*2048?
That would be very nice!
Hopefully TIA

Hi Earlybite,
PM exchanged. -
There was a problem:
Problem solved (AFAIK):
Still WIP…

One tile a the time. Nice going anyway.
I would still try to make border between the tiles seamless and also border between port and the city seamless as well. However, ATM your problem was water so all borders may yet to come. WIP. Now …. of course pretty soon you will see that every river tile in Seoul to be a container port, which is perhaps little too often. So that would require a new tile …perhaps.
Coordination with 3D features on the tile could be of some effort still to come. I would remove that smaller container ship approaching pier at the angle. Big one could stay, but smaller one is little off, specially if repeating.
Intensity of infrastructure in modern world is mind boggling .

Hi!
What to prefer? Most looking like Seoul? Or like “art”?
I want to ask, because I just had a nearer look on the great river in Seoul and there is no harbour line…!
Also other cities mostly (and AFAI could find) have a harbour line only direct at or near to sea.
E.g. you can have a look with Bing maps at 37,531010 127,050295, there you can find no harbour line…
And maybe it is better to place something like that: 37,539865 127,042275? Or like that: 37,575099 127,139311?TIA

Best solution for Seoul would be in my opinion PR tiles for the river Han and the city perimeter, the rest (inside of the city) with standard city tiles. Unfortunately, this is in contradiction with objective location of Korea map and location of the bridges and network of roads. Major city like also should be according to RL scale. Here in Falcon Seoul it is surely large, but not large enough.
It is big, but none less interesting subject to make major Korea cities (or for that matter any major city of other theaters) to look more realistic. I am not even talking any 3D here - just flat 2D layout.

I’m really unsure how to tile it…! And the Bing maps are not given much choices… And there are so many bridges…, bridges here, bridges there, where I would prefer not to use it as tile.
One idea now is to take a land tile with “good curved streets” (if I’m able to find them) and putting a layer of a river strand in. It needs minimum 16 tiles to get the river lines.Overall, all the objects are momentary secondary, this can be done step by step, later, sometime.
Especially the harbor objects, I had a special look for it, even with the default tiles, they do not really fit… And, AFAI could see, they are only to find at sea side.To take RL river picures makes no sense, because there are too less choices that Bing maps give…, but combining land and river can be it. Also then it is possible to add a (mega) riverside street…(for cruising and sightseeing e.g.).
BTW: Have you known that in the Korea map that there is missing a great river in Seoul? From left of the stadium (the object), to right of Seoul airport.

The next question…
The side with the bridge is half/half…, from a 2048 tile 1024 water. The other side is 3/4 of 2048…
???

what is the question?
The side with the bridge is half half -> you probably mean the area-tiles where the bridge is.
From a 2048 tile 1024 water… You mean what with this? 2048 is the new side and the other side is 1024? or the water tile under the bridge? or just the water tile is 1024?
The other side is 3/4 of 2048… so it’s 1536x1536 pixels? how did you do that? -
1 tile = 1 km
If I use half/half of a tile (half water / half land), then I have 1 km water (in the middle).
If I use 3/4 of a tile for land, then I have 1/4 for water, so 500 m water in the middle.
Have a look at the first pic in #45 (ful size) and you will recognize, that the water area, the width of the river, at the bridge side is much greater, as the other side.If I use 1/2 of the tile for water I can make “smoother” curves for the river, but it (the river) will be much wider…
----------------EDIT:
BTW: The great river in Seoul is ~700m wide… -

BTW: The great river in Seoul is ~700m wide…You just answered your question.

Hi,
I’m not really happy with this “great” curves, but it depends on the radius. It would use some more tiles to get a better view, but…on to the bridges and the stadium.
