Great to see the new layout and really looking forward to 1.6! Coincidentally i checked Kastelli on Google Maps today and i’m amazed how close to the real this AB is, really curios to see it in “real” (read 3D)
A question regarding the new approch, why did you changed it? Just wondering because the new approach is crossing LGR-9 and when there are flights on the range it could get dangerous with incoming AC to Kasteli. Or am i wrong?

Well about your question “why did i changed the procedure?”, well the answer is easy:
We/you want and always ask for more realism, right?
Check the below real procedure and then you have your reply:Now you may ask me: “O.k. Nikos, i got your point but inside the real chart there is no LGR-9.”.
Well in that we have: Actually the area LGR-9 now is a Local Flying Area, the Local Flying Area Assimi with limits from GND to 6,000.
So Local Flying Areas usually used for small planes to do VFR practise and not for military jets to have a firing range. But in Aegean exactly there we have a firing range.
So as in real life similar situations, simply a NOTAM by the headquarters can solve the possible issue and take care the safe separation.
As an example, i should personally order my pilots in my squadron to:- (for the joining the range planes) execute a left turn exiting the range just after their last pass on it with a heading of 190 deg. to intercept the KLI R-230 outbound and to manage to fly to FL90, means to be at that altitude if practicable at KLI R-230/24.7 DME, else to that altitude mandatory at the end/exit of the KLI 27 DME arc.
- (for the rest approaching to Kasteli planes) cross the KLI TACAN with a course that avoid to cross the LGR-9 area, and then outbound via KLI R-202 at FL90 until reach holding. Then following holding pattern for once, they can establish a final course to execute the TACAN approach.

Well my friend, in order to give you one more step to convince you that i have right as also the real knowledge about rules for air navigation, just check the below real also chart for the near Ioannis Daskalogiannis airbase in Crete island:You can easily see that the track from the IAF (XANAD) until the almost half 12 DME arc as also all the holding pattern are INSIDE the REAL LGC-101 Firing Range!
But of course with the correct NOTAM when the Firing Range is activated, we have NO air collisions ;).

I appreciate any step further of the realism. Especially in case of TACAN approach as i’m an every-now-and-then virtual airliner-pilot and flying the fat clippers realistic approaches and departures are the only challenging things there
I will get in touch with our procedures/charts pro SPARROW, we’ll see what he decides.
But i have to say i will miss the “old” tight approach with the IAF at DME8, get’s you down quicker and saves time to get back to the squadron bar :mrgreen:

Haha, i fully agree with you mate about to missed the old procedure for much more quicker recovery :p.
But you see, the specific old procedure created specificaly for the TCM Project as an alternative airbase for the Ioannis Daskalogiannis.
So with their between distance of 61 NM, i should make something quick and easy, and i was did that ;).
But now WE must have the real one, as close and with any nice improvement we can.

O.k. no problem my friend.
You see some time ago at summer of 2013, 4 great friends “Drakko” - “NIL” - “Falcontower” - Neystratiou" decided to try a very nice idea by “Drakko”, the TCM Program (site here: http://tcmprogram.prophpbb.com).
Each one of them had a specific sector of works and supervising, and all together the care of the whole project.
Think something of the TLP - small scale of Red Flag - general mil. aviation school.
As a theater of operations chosen to be the Aegean theater, and home base the Ioannis Daskalogiannis in Crete island of Greece. Then it was the need for a near airbase as an alternative one. After a good study we had chosen the Kasteli airbase.
But if i was made it with the real one procedure, then its main purpose as an alternative/emergency airbase should be completely out of the target, because of the distance between the 2 airbases (61 NM) as also of the big track of the real TACAN approach of the Kasteli.
So i was find the solution with the non real procedure that you already know and enjoy for Kasteli airbase.
So now you know…

Well Kasteli airbase will have great and very precise RWY and TWY signs in order to offer more real ground operations.
Below the RWY distance remaining sing “1”, exactly at 1,000 FT (10/61 NM) from the end of RWY 20:
And below the placed PAPI lights (as in real airbase) at 1,000 FT (10/61 NM) from the threshold bar for an ideal 3 deg. slope and at 50 FT from the side of RWY:
Aegean theater v1.6 is now more close to the release…
