I tested out with Oracle Virtualbox / VMware and proxmox and worked fine.
I did have to emulate a 3d and audio card -
No 3D -> no Falcon BMS

No 3D -> no Falcon BMS
My server does not have a 3d, only a intel onboard card.
The difference is I emulated the audio and video in the vm machine. Also there is people running falcon on Docker.

How did you emulate it? I am running ESXi 5.0.

Silly question probably (noob here), but why launch on a virtual server?
Is it to act as a game host or something?

For me, it would be to run a campaign on a server with a lot better bandwidth. My home bw is bad. 20 times better on a work server.

I am unable to run BSM on my virtual server.
The server is a VPS rental from NFOServers.com.
Windows 2012 R2, running on Xen virtual platform.
I run DCS, ARMA 3, IL-2, FSX/P3D on it without any issues (Well this week I finally got DCS 1.5 to run).
When it crash it just says Faulting module name: Falcon BMS.exe
I tried TightVNC, VNC via NFOServer console, Remote Desktop with and without audio passthrough. -
3D GPU available on the VM?
-
No GPU but 2012 R2 has DX support, granted it will run via software off of CPU.
BMS requires 3D support even on the mission screen?
I run BMS server off of a headless system from my house and I never load into a cockpit, stays on mission screen. -
Any (virtual) audio device available? I could run BMS without GPU on a VPS (can’t recommend the performance though) but it needed a sound card to launch without immediate CTD.

You shouldn’t need a soundcard either.
Try renaming Particlesys.ini in data/terrdata if the sound is giving you troubles. -

I run BMS server off of a headless system from my house and I never load into a cockpit, stays on mission screen.BMS requires that the server runs in 3D mode for the multiplayer to work correctly. Believe the manual suggests that servers run flights that are out of the way and longer than the scheduled flights for the human players.
