First Time AI Wingman Shot me Down!
-
So I was BARCAPing along earlier today getting ready to re-engage after some jousting with the Migs, when i hear my AI wingy call Fox 3 medium. A moment passes. Then he calls Pitbull. At the same time my RWR starts yelling at me desperately trying to inform me that something is trying to kill me. After another moment my coffee deprived brain realized what was happening. Afterburner, dump all the chaff, spasmically toggle the jammer, aaaaaaaaaaaand… Dead.
I know we sometimes shoot eachother down in MP in hilarious ways, but has the AI ever killed you during your solo adventures
-
So far, never had an AI shoot me down. However, I have shot my AI down when they were involved in a Furball and I shooting at the enemy near them. Possibly the AI are smarter in 4.33 and sounds like you were involved in a Furball yourself.
-
ya thats the reason you dont shoot a aim120 in a furball
-
this is common since 4.32

“Fox 3 medium…pitbull!”
- “You’ll pay for this!”
Worst radio call ever.
-
That’s not half as embarrassing as the time I shot down my element lead during an online flight.
I had a less sophisticated joystick and was trying to lock up a radar contact . . . instead I triggered off two heaters. With no warning his aircraft became confetti. :wfish:

History knows even more humiliating mishaps, esp. ones involving anti-radiation missiles

IMHO this behavior of the AI has to stop ASAP!
I was flying a 2-ship Barcap as lead.
After a while a few SU-25 came across and #2 asked permission to engange.I didn’t gave permission because I wanted to designate the targets for him.
Short after he fired 2 AIM-120’s in a short time, so I told him to “hold weapons” and “Rejoin”.Then he fired another one, so I had to told him to “hold weapons”, “Resume mission” and “Rejoin”.
This time it worked, so he’ll be not winchester, yet.OK, so there are 2 SU-25 left, … I’ve locked one, … next I heard #2 calling MADDOG
and saw that flashing M on the RWR.W T F … push panic button, … break left…
Here is the result:
… I could swear I saw a grin in his face during his last flyby.
@BMS
I understand that this behavior is a mixed result of missle behavior and
AI behavior (and my own behavior ???).But what’s the point of flying as lead when I don’t give permission to engange,
and he do anyway?Or if I order him “Weapons hold”, and then still sending an AIM-120 MADDOG at me
is grossly negligent and sounds not like an realistic behavior at all.Even more important is the fact that the user can rarely know when this will happen again,
or how to positive affect this behavior in any way.So please, please, please, …
When I (as lead) order an AI wingmen to “Weapons hold” he should abort his doing immediately,
and should react to a “Rejoin” order (or any other order) immediately as well.P.S.
… nice ejected pilot 3D model.Cheers,

Its good that they fire if bandit is close , makes them feel bit more real. Not robots
I Recomend to tell wingmen to go spread so you wont be so easily between AIM-120 and its target.
I have been shot down only 3 times in 4.32 and its always been F-15 etc… Not my wingmens.

@Xeno
Haha I think the culprit is still on these boards although wasn’t this during the FreeFalcon days if my memory isn’t f**king with me? -
I Recomend to tell wingmen to go spread so you wont be so easily between AIM-120 and its target.
The problem is that AI wingmen isn’t always in spread position,
even if I’ve ordered him to do so.For example if I do a hard right turn, then he’s on my six for a while.
So your suggestion might help a little, but is no solution, IMHO.I have been shot down only 3 times in 4.32 and its always been F-15 etc… Not my wingmens.
I’ve been also shot down about 3 times in 4.32, but always from AI wingmen.

I understand what you say, but I’ve to disagree here.
Starting to shoot AIM-120’s without permission at a punch of SU-25’s, 30 nm out
isn’t really necesarry and might force the bandit to turn and burn early.I can’t believe that if #2 ignore the leads order makes them feel bit more real,
maybe it makes them feel more alive, more aggresive, and more stupid, but not more real.I guess in RL #2 will be arrested for long, without any chance to fly a jet ever again.
Even if want to count those kills for myself, then #2 has to “weapons hold”
if he has been ordered to do so.In BMS the SP pilot has still to babysitt the AI wingmen, to prevent those script monkeys from
doing stupid things.“weapon hold” worked fine in OF 4.x, so when I noticed #2 got draged into danger territory,
my order was “weapon hold” and “rejoin”. (turn and burn to get your ass save)In BMS 4.xx they ignore my order often, but I hear them soon after “2- engange defensive”,
… following by a greyed out wingmen menu.See, as lead I’m responsible for my flight and when I lose a wingmen (even just AI) I feel bad,
(did something wrong ?) so I try everything to take care of them. But when they ignore my order, then I can’t help them anymore.
To get back on topic, …
I see rather the AI wingmen more robotic (means following leads orders immediately),
than doing stupid things which can’t be controlled by human.A working “weapons hold” command is one of the main commands for a SP pilot.
AI wingmen can show thier brainpower (3xLOL) when lead orderd to fight.

Well, im quite happy with Wingmens and AI , its overall much better than in 4.32 , least they now attack ground targets better with mav’s etc…
But yes i agree that there would be nice to have bit more response time to time.
AI is still wip, and i think that we have taken many steps to right direction, AI Fuel use is good now, so is ground attack and BVR combat is much better. So maybe after update or two they will respect your orders some more

HUH? AI + mav’s was the most effective way for me in 4.32.
… quick in, … quick out, racks of all AC empty, rarely lose of wingmen.Whereat I’ve had my problems in 4.32 with AI + CBU/GBU/MK.
After their 1rst bomb run they fly ~ 25 nm into enemy terrain, over SAMs, etc.
before they turn for a 2nd run.
… results often in “2- engange defensive”, “3- engange defensive”, “4- engange defensive”,
soon later w menu greyed out, then “3- ejecting”, then additionally e + r- menu greyed out.
(never heard a further word from #2 and #4, LOL)So my tactic has changed to order them to “WH” + “R” after their first run,
fly back to get a save distance to target ~30 nm, then turn and order #2 and #3+#4 to attack (my) target(s).Then I repeat that procedure long as possible and flight is not winchester on bombs.
Sadly some AI just overflew the target without dropping bombs on thier 2nd run.Anyway, a 4 ship quick in - quick out bombrun was impossible for me with the AI,
but, that was with 4.32. I’ve not tested the AI bombing behavior in 4.33 yet.BTW. a 4 ship quick in - quick out bombrun was perfectly possible in OF 4.x,
where AI followed my orders, turned for 2nd (3rd) run after ~ 10NM,
and dropped their bombs when they should.
(Just sayin’, I have already been told it’s more realistic soon after 4.32 release ;))But yes i agree that there would be nice to have bit more response time to time.

-Haukka81I’ve already noticed the differently AI behavior (especially AI Fuel use) although I didn’t flew often.
Generally i trust in BMS so I’m sure the AI behavior will be good at the end,
and hopefully close to “as real as it gets”.
I can await U1 or even U2 for a “orders fix”, … in 3-4 weeks, LOL.Thank’s for info and watchin’, Haukka.

You forgot the most important command for a wingman in BMS is. Number 2 RTB! LOL
-
I was in a dogfight with a mig and a friendly F15 engaged the mig with a Sparrow. I happened to be between the missile and the mig and got downed. Bad luck I suppose
-
I really wish I had the acmi for this so I could get a better understanding of what the hell #2 was shooting at. I’ll admit my SA is not great since I have not flown much lately but i am pretty sure there were no threats that close. Anyways it was a good laugh, I might have to send the wingys home while i refresh my skills then I will be able to spend more attention on them.

Why did you interfere with his firing solution?

Why did you interfere with his firing solution?
Hahah. Bastard tried to steal my kill. Atleast now he gets the court marshall. Totally worth it LOL
-
I have had 120’s launched in dogfight mode locked on red aircraft in fur ball then go after friendly downing him and pissed him off too…and have seen multiple friendlies launch air to air missiles from my 6 which converge on me and poof I am gone
