Massive FPS Loss

Because falcon is single core program, AMD single core performance sucks.
And AMD 4,0ghz is slower that 4,0ghz Intel because AMDs old technology. Just Google some reviews
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/fx-4170-core-i3-3220-benchmarks,3314-7.html dual core Intel is even better or equal
Clock vs clock Intel makes more work
If bms4.33 is still a single core program,
why is my i3-530 o/c to 4,4Ghz with gtx970 slower than I5-4460 with R9-270X?It does not make sense.
-
Gtx 970 has problem with BMS
And I5 is faster than I3 , maybe because BMS is multi threaded program (not same as multicore) and I5 is better tech than I3.
But AMD sucks anyway for simming where pure calculation performance is what maters

Thanks for the reply haukka81.
I didnāt know that gtx970 has problem with BMS,
so that explain why gtx970 performance is so terrible with BMS.Do you know if there is any workaround for it?
And for BMS, with the same clock speed, is i7 better than i5?

I7 may not be better , least not for it high cost so for games I5 is best price / performance CPU
Im not sure about 970 but lots of fps problems here in forums in 970 users so it Looks like there is some problem. I have 660gtx and BMS runs really fine

@APOLLO:
I also experienced dramatic loss of FPS with 4 33 due to low performance of my laptop.
Even with various setup graphics tuning, the best results i could make, were still not enough for proper flying experienceā¦SOLUTION 1
One way to improve poor performance on your rig is to go to Control Panel / System / System Settings for Advanced users / Performance (visual effects, cpu timetable memory use/ visual memory) and select Settings / For Advanced users
In Visual memory settings press āChangeā. In Size Adjustment you have 2 boxes with āoriginal size MBā and āMax size MBā
You have now the capability of expand the usage of free HD space in favor of you RAM in order to speed up performance!
Depending of your free HD space you select a new number and press Select / OK.
I saw great improvment in my laptop and FPS impact on BMS.
Again a great āTHANK YOUā at BMS Team for all the efforts to improve this great sim!!
ā+1ā on this this. Turning down tress and clouds didnāt do much, so I tried the above and it does make a big difference. So, thx , Apollo

i5 2500k 4.4ghz, 8g ram, 280x 3gb, never drop below 30 (avg 45-50+) all eye candy on, TGP, TFR, WPN and FLIR cause hardly any fps drop now compared to 4.32, all in all 4.33 is better all round fps wise for me, and I havenāt upgraded for a long time, except for drivers, oh and Iām now using Windows 10 64 bit, no issues.
-
Hey Drexx you have that 2500 on air or water cooled?
-
Liquid cooling, i.e. a fan blows on a radiator that cools the liquid that circulates round my CPU.

I am astonished - I have very similar 2500K running at 4.3GHz; 8GB DDR3 but with Radeon 5750 1GB over WIN7 64 bit and averaging only 25 FPS (though I do have extracted MFD into separate windows and MFDE for some gauges) - is the R9 280x really improving performance that much or am I just crippling my FPS with the extracted stuff??

Since 4.33 release Iāve had zero problems with fps, on average fps is slightly lower that it was in 4.32, but in 4.32 Iād drop from 60 to below 30 at times during major battles in campaign, Iād always be adjusting things to gain more.
But now I just fly campaign with no worries, fps is fine, no major problems, runs good with trackIR, no annoying fps drops or stutters noticed, not sure if windows 10 helps much or not?, whatever it is its working good for me.
I donāt use extracted MFDās, so wouldnāt know what FPS hit that would cause. -
Iāve figured out two tricks to improve FPS.
Turning off shaders:
go to ā¦\Falcon BMS 4.33\User\Config, open falcon bms.cfg, add line: set g_bUseShaders 0Turning off wing vapors:
go to ā¦\Falcon BMS 4.33\Data\Terrdata, open particlesys.ini, find ādefinetexture=vapor0ā and ādefinetexture=vapor1ā in lines texture.blendmode=SMOKE change SMOKE to HEATTurning off shaders through the config put me in the 80ās fps wise, however I get terrain flickering.

What video driver version are you running ?
Do you typically keep windows and video drivers updated regularly ?

Hi Drexx,
On TFR training mission, with both FLIR on MFD and on HUD, how many fps do you get?
-
Guys itās not the general things that matter on those aspects but the details.
Every xxx VGA model doesnāt have the same bw.
Also from the mobo side and if 2 cards are used same thing appliesā¦ does it go x16 on both slots or if 2 cards are there it goes x8?
I might have a pciX 3.0 card on a pcix 2.0 mobo or viveversa.
clock speeds. So donāt jest read gtx970 oh I have the same why mine is lower?
also things like external mfd display sure counts much.
Monitor or monitors resolution.
background services and programs running in general. -
Hi Drexx,
On TFR training mission, with both FLIR on MFD and on HUD, how many fps do you get?
And with cockpit lights on and sweetFX SMAA Anti-aliasing (I think I posted my sweetfx settings in SweetFX thread?)
Like I said, FPS is on average is lower than it was with 4.32, but its pretty stable, no BIG fps drops and stutters that I got from time to time with 4.32, I never check fps with 4.33, it just runs good, better than 4.32 did at 60 fps.
Use CCleaner and check your back ground process as Arty said, thereās so many different things can effect individual rigs, I run World of Tanks HD on top settings no problem so I actually think I should have more fps in BMS lol.
But seriously 4.33 is fine on my rig, it runs good, no complaints here.EDIT: One more thing, clean your rig out once a month, I take the cover off mine and hoover all the dust out once a month, Iāve heard that dust build up round RAM chips can slow things down.
-
Yes, I update all drivers and install all windows updates, Iāve even updated the MOBO bios, using new AMD Crimson driver.
Crimson driver caused my touchscreens to not work, FRAPS cored, BMS cored, Saitek X55 profiler cored, and I went back to the latest working Catalyst drivers.

Hmmm strange, I donāt use any touch screens with BMS so no experience of that and I use a Thrustmaster with no problems, when I record with bandicam fps only drops to 30ish at its lowest and has no effect on the recording quality, plays back well.

No.
Dust build up will not slow down your RAM, lol.
The only problem dust brings, is heat, as it is an insulator. If you allow your heatsinks to become covered in dust, you will see higher operating temperatures. Eventually that could lead to thermal throttling, or even thermal failure.
But having dust around your RAM chips isnāt going to slow them down.

Hi Drexx
thanks for the reply.
I never use sweetfx.
what is the advantage of using it?
does it increase the fps?
