Massive FPS Loss
-
Hey Drexx you have that 2500 on air or water cooled?
-
Liquid cooling, i.e. a fan blows on a radiator that cools the liquid that circulates round my CPU.
-
i5 2500k 4.4ghz, 8g ram, 280x 3gb, never drop below 30 (avg 45-50+) all eye candy on, TGP, TFR, WPN and FLIR cause hardly any fps drop now compared to 4.32, all in all 4.33 is better all round fps wise for me, and I haven’t upgraded for a long time, except for drivers, oh and I’m now using Windows 10 64 bit, no issues.
I am astonished - I have very similar 2500K running at 4.3GHz; 8GB DDR3 but with Radeon 5750 1GB over WIN7 64 bit and averaging only 25 FPS (though I do have extracted MFD into separate windows and MFDE for some gauges) - is the R9 280x really improving performance that much or am I just crippling my FPS with the extracted stuff??

Since 4.33 release I’ve had zero problems with fps, on average fps is slightly lower that it was in 4.32, but in 4.32 I’d drop from 60 to below 30 at times during major battles in campaign, I’d always be adjusting things to gain more.
But now I just fly campaign with no worries, fps is fine, no major problems, runs good with trackIR, no annoying fps drops or stutters noticed, not sure if windows 10 helps much or not?, whatever it is its working good for me.
I don’t use extracted MFD’s, so wouldn’t know what FPS hit that would cause. -
I’ve figured out two tricks to improve FPS.
Turning off shaders:
go to …\Falcon BMS 4.33\User\Config, open falcon bms.cfg, add line: set g_bUseShaders 0Turning off wing vapors:
go to …\Falcon BMS 4.33\Data\Terrdata, open particlesys.ini, find ‘definetexture=vapor0’ and ‘definetexture=vapor1’ in lines texture.blendmode=SMOKE change SMOKE to HEATTurning off shaders through the config put me in the 80’s fps wise, however I get terrain flickering.

What video driver version are you running ?
Do you typically keep windows and video drivers updated regularly ?

Hi Drexx,
On TFR training mission, with both FLIR on MFD and on HUD, how many fps do you get?
-
Guys it’s not the general things that matter on those aspects but the details.
Every xxx VGA model doesn’t have the same bw.
Also from the mobo side and if 2 cards are used same thing applies… does it go x16 on both slots or if 2 cards are there it goes x8?
I might have a pciX 3.0 card on a pcix 2.0 mobo or viveversa.
clock speeds. So don’t jest read gtx970 oh I have the same why mine is lower?
also things like external mfd display sure counts much.
Monitor or monitors resolution.
background services and programs running in general. -
Hi Drexx,
On TFR training mission, with both FLIR on MFD and on HUD, how many fps do you get?
And with cockpit lights on and sweetFX SMAA Anti-aliasing (I think I posted my sweetfx settings in SweetFX thread?)
Like I said, FPS is on average is lower than it was with 4.32, but its pretty stable, no BIG fps drops and stutters that I got from time to time with 4.32, I never check fps with 4.33, it just runs good, better than 4.32 did at 60 fps.
Use CCleaner and check your back ground process as Arty said, there’s so many different things can effect individual rigs, I run World of Tanks HD on top settings no problem so I actually think I should have more fps in BMS lol.
But seriously 4.33 is fine on my rig, it runs good, no complaints here.EDIT: One more thing, clean your rig out once a month, I take the cover off mine and hoover all the dust out once a month, I’ve heard that dust build up round RAM chips can slow things down.
-
Yes, I update all drivers and install all windows updates, I’ve even updated the MOBO bios, using new AMD Crimson driver.
Crimson driver caused my touchscreens to not work, FRAPS cored, BMS cored, Saitek X55 profiler cored, and I went back to the latest working Catalyst drivers.

Hmmm strange, I don’t use any touch screens with BMS so no experience of that and I use a Thrustmaster with no problems, when I record with bandicam fps only drops to 30ish at its lowest and has no effect on the recording quality, plays back well.

No.
Dust build up will not slow down your RAM, lol.
The only problem dust brings, is heat, as it is an insulator. If you allow your heatsinks to become covered in dust, you will see higher operating temperatures. Eventually that could lead to thermal throttling, or even thermal failure.
But having dust around your RAM chips isn’t going to slow them down.

Hi Drexx
thanks for the reply.
I never use sweetfx.
what is the advantage of using it?
does it increase the fps? -
Hi Drexx

does it increase the fps?It depends on what settings you use, if you use it with HDR switched on then no, it will decrease your fps, but you can use it as a light option for Anti-Aliasing, I think the SweetFX SMAA is not as hard on fps as other forms of AA, you need to switch AA totally off in BMS for it to work, I doubt any fps gain would be much though, so don’t expect a miracle.

Hey guys!
I’m just curious; Are you honestly happy and content with a fps at 30 in a single aircraft TE, in a sim built for large scale aircombat? I see your hardware is very good and there is not much to update on the market right now without destroying a fairly normal economy or if well of ,your relationship :-)I’m far from offensive in any way, I’m just keen on getting to know how you think and what your goals are, flying the F16?
Clear skies!
Cheers!

Pretty happy.
Just need an upgrade to prevent dropping from 20-25.

Hope you meant “to 20-25 fps”. My absolute minimum is 30 as below that, Track Ir stop being intuitive as it lag in cameramovement. Interesting otherwise to know you are ok with 30 in TE, even if its obvious we have no choice and I’m certain both of us are as humbly grateful what have been done for free for us, it is still as interesting.
Continue to enjoy!/Jaws

Yep its amazeing what the devs have done for us.
I do truly hope they can some how optimize the game though mostly when the damn tgp is on :(.

Whats the motherboard you are running ?
