Best time and place to align Rifles?
-
With 4.33 and the need to align the Maverics with the TGPs, where is the best place to do so?
I have tried on the ground during ramping (ground jett enabled etc) but cant seem to (a) find anything to lock the TGP onto, or (b) if I do the Maverick pointers dont depress enough to boresight.
In the air is troublesome trying find a viable target.
What is your experience with this issue my brothers.

Hi Mower.
You can put in your flight plan a STPT, after TOC and before holding point, where your flight can point an objetct and align your Mavs. It should be a place where you can find a “pointable” object. You should prepare this point when creating the mission and then you should brief this issue.
On the ground is very difficult to do. An ideal place will be on EOR and arm/dearm platform.

What Ender said. I usually plan to overfly a friendly city, with the FP-leg leading to it giving me some 10-20nm to do the procedure. Buildings are great for BSGT, but verify that you’re locked on the same part of the building or you might get into problems. If I forget to plan for it, I’ll SnowPlow for GM returns and find something 20 miles out, and allign with that. Make sure that thing isn’t a SAM, though

On deck I’d use something like a runway distance marker, from marshal if possible. Then there should be an airborne check against a known, planned target - which you will likely have to include in your nav plan. Pretty sure that’s how it’s done in RL.

So what you guys doing? Don’t work on the ground due to TGP limits.
Can’t very well leave formation to go align for 10 minutes.
-
The problem is that the farther away your alignment target is, the better your alignment will be…harder to solve on deck, but workable. You have to find a suitable location and target, though. Preferably a stationary one.

Practice makes perfect, you’ll soon be able to boresight your Mavs in a minute, or less when you get really proficient.
I do the same as Ender and set Steerpoint 2 or 3 on a town/factory/powerplant just after taking off to use a building for point-tracking and boresighting, before switching the Mavs off (so they don’t time out later when you really need them) and climbing up to altitude.
That way the boresighting procedure really doesn’t get in the way much at all, no more than ops checks or any other basic system checks enroute.

wow i just learnt i had to do this… lol i would just power up the mav’s and wait till the timer counted down then just uncaged at the attack waypoint and fired.

Get any hits? Don’t forget the keyhole now as well.

What is the Keyhole Mower? Yes i’ve had about a 90% hit rate. The only problem i face is the zoom amount in the weapon camera of the mav. I use to be able to pick a certain target in say a depot. Now even when i get to under 7 nautical miles its hard to fully see the target enough to distinguish each building within it. I think in 4.32 there was something i edited in the config file that increased the zoom amount but i can’t remember what and i can’t find anything on google either.

No need to look on google, the answer is much closer:
TO BMS1-F16CM-34-1-1, pages 147 and 153 (in your \Falcon BMS 4.33\Docs\Falcon BMS Manuals folder).
BMS-Training, pages 118 and 124 (in the same folder).

You don’t HAVE to do this, only if you want to use the TGP instead of WPN page for Mavs.
What is the Keyhole Mower?
^Darkman beat me to it.
