4.33 TGP Zoom Problem
-
What keyfile are you using? The default one now is BMS-Full.key, iirc, which may have different commands than your 4.32 keyfile.

Thanks for responding so fast. I would love to get things working quickly so I can use it on a particular mission which employs GBU-39s. First time using them. Anyway, the printout of the keyfile I believe I am using has written on it in big letters: Falcon BMS Keyboard Layout (Qwerty/US Int.). It is this printout that indicates where the Manual Range Knob is located which I alluded to above. I cross checked it with my Control layout in my Setup and they are under the Alt F3 and Alt F4.

Have you checked if you are on TV submode in TGP. In WHOT and BHOT mode, you can’t zoom with your manual range knob.
Zooming can only be done in TV mode.
I think OSB 6 is used for selecting the submodes.
Also check your keymapping to ensure the manual range knob is properly mapped.Hope this works for you.

Man range zoom works in all modes tv/bhot/whot. Narrow fov (activated by pinky switch) is limited to whot/bhot only.

Maybe I read wrong. I have equally tried zooming in WHOT and BHOT submode but did not work, only in TV mode am I able to use the manual range knob to zoom in as it is stated in BMS training manual page 95.
Manual says one can only zoom with TV display mode in daylight scenario.
I would be happy to find out otherwise as I would love to zoom in in WHOT and BHOT display mode. Object resolution is better in WHOT and BHOT mode. -

“The TV mode is a daylight mode that offers a greater zoom capability using the MAN RNG knob on your throttle (if set up correctly).”
Which is true…it offers GREATER zoom compared to whot/bhot - it does not state that zoom only works with TV mode. I just tried it now. You sure everything is set up correctly on your end?

Great then. I will try zooming in WHOT and BHOT mode when I am the air again.
I can zooming in TV mode quite alright.
Maybe my assumption that it works on TV submode has keep me from trying harder in whot and bhot.
We confirm from my end.
Thanks. -
Have you made sure the TGP is SOI.

Hello all here.
I wish to correct my earlier post which stated that zoom feature does not work in bhot and whot display mode in TGP.
I obviously misconstrued the procedures explained in page 96 of Bms training manual and assumed zooming only worked in TV display mode.I have just confirmed what Deki said and that is zooming works in all display mode when using the TGP with the manual range knob mapped to Alt F3 and F4.
Deki once again thanks for the correction. I am happier for this discovery.

I am glad that my thread helped someone else but I am still having problems. I have tried quite a few combinations of making sure the TGP is SOI, FCR is locked and unlocked on target, all three modes (TV, WHT, BHT), locking up the target on the TGP, etc and still no zoom. Someone told me once that Dell computers are no good for gaming. Is that a factor? Do I need to move on from Windows 7. I remember seeing some people having problems with windows 10. I say again this was not a problem in 4.32. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Hello Oldfalcon,
I am using Windows 7 professional so I do not think windows is the problem.Test
Go to your controller setup and press the Alt F3 and Alt F4 keys and see if it is mapped to man range knob callback. Can you trying remapping the keys for manual range knob to another key beside the default Alt F3 and Alt F4 and see if it work, perhaps your keyboard is the issue?
I remember correctly I remapped Alt F3 and Alt F4 again to have it functioning.
Make sure the callback you are mapping is TQS: MAN RANGE KNOB. -
Darn! I thought you were on to something. I have the same trouble moving the antenna up and down which is under Ctrl: F5, F6, F7. But, alas, I moved the TQS: Man Range knob to shift: u, i and nothing. Moved it back to the original spot and nothing. The other functions under the function keys and modifiers (shift, ctrl, etc) seem to work fine. Is it time to buy a new computer?

If your target can be designated with a target steerpoint in 2D you really don’t need to use the TGP, because GBU 39 is a type of JDAM. Just turn the bombs on, fly to the steerpoint, get within range, pickle and smoke a cigar. But if would be good to get to the bottom of whatever is going on .

Try a different keyfile yours might have changed. I have no problems in windows 10
-
Well it sounds to me like we have exhausted all the possible solutions and that this problem is unique to my system. Thank you for trying. Might be time for a new computer. This one is getting old. What are the best pilots buying in the way of a nice computer for gaming and other various household duties?
-
Honestly the best and most cost efficient thing to do is to build your own. And by that I mean you by all the parts and then put it together. As for as the biggest items contributing to a system are motherboard CPU RAM and GPU. You can by bundles on places like Amazon and Newegg.
-
The range knob does another function with GM/SEA radar. Does it function there?

What is your max budget? This might help with recommendations.

I can’t see anything what this prob has to do with your PC hardware. Pretty sure you somehow ****ed up your keyfile or HOTAS programming.

Yeah, it more of a software issue than hardware.
Nothing wrong with getting a new system if that would give him good flying pleasure and peace of mind.
