Changing drives with U1
-
Just wanted to check, when I tried to install U1 on my SSD it finally showed me that my SSD was having issues with large file writes. To try out U1 I installed it on my storage HDD and setup all my personalized stuff like .key, .cfg, SoftTH profile, logbook, etc. while I ran off my backup SSD. Now that I RMAed and have a replacement main SSD, I want to just move it if I can and not reinstall so I don’t have to do all those little file edits if I can to help to save some time. Is this possible with a copy and some regedits?

Probably and that would be quick if so.
Alternatively copy BMS folder to new drive and give a new temp name. Uninstall BMS using the setup.
Reboot then reinstall BMS to new drive . Delete the new BMS folder and rename the previously copied folder. -
Falcon 4 isn’t needed to be reinstalled, just BMS.
if you kept your install just copy paste those files like softth and u will be ok.

Just save your config folder and uninstall/reinstall u1 to new drive and replace the config folder with the one from your HDD. It takes about 10 minutes. That is the fastest, most reliable and easiest way.

Just copy the entire installation over. Then go into the registry and modify the file with the location path. I’m not on my computer but it’s located I believe in hkey local machine then software then wow64nofe with a few extra numbers in the name and them benchmark Sims you should be able to do the rest from there and figure it out

Yeah I wouldn’t think original F4 would need to be reinstalled but just checking there isn’t something funky with U1. The reinstall and then copy over is an extra setup I’d like to avoid if possible but may still be quicker if there is a lot of regedits.

For a more vanilla install that is the best answer. But there are a few mods, Balkans, and SoftTH that I have that are not in the config folder. Like to avoid redoing those if possible.

Yeah that’s what I was originally thinking if the regedits are not too excessive. I can look too when I get home, just thought I would get the consensus on the best options and then give at whirl then. I didn’t expect BMS to be but there are a few things out there that you can move freely from drive to drive without any edits.

I’m fairly sure you only have to modify 1 registry entry. At least that’s been the case for 4.32 and 33

4.33 Update 1 is not the same as 4.32 and 4.33 though, so don’t mess about with the registry; just follow Icarus’ advice:
- Backup your current installation
- Uninstall from your old drive
- Install onto your new drive
- Copy what you need from your backup
-
You can even make a cmd and let it run until it’s finished (lazy way :p).
md "new location" xcopy "old location" "new location" /E /C /I /Q /H /K /Y reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Benchmark Sims\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 (Internal) /v "baseDir" /t REG_SZ /d "New location"
So, for moving from D to C for example:
md "C:\Games\Falcon BMS\Falcon BMS 4.33" xcopy "D:\Games\Falcon BMS\Falcon BMS 4.33" "C:\Games\Falcon BMS\Falcon BMS 4.33" /E /C /I /Q /H /K /Y reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Benchmark Sims\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1" (Internal) /v "baseDir" /t REG_SZ /d "C:\Games\Falcon BMS\Falcon BMS 4.33"
