Tacview – Understand what happened during your last flight! (alternative ACMI viewer)
-
I think I figured it out, for some reason, in a TE, the DTC save does not write the STP locations, only the lines. I did a load/save and now it works.
Thanks

Didn’t see if this was mentioned before, but is there a way to remove dead ground units from displaying completely? As I fly around with the bubble, the “dead” ground units are shown in their last known positions. If I fly back, I now see red and black/grey units all on top of each other.
I searched this thread and looked all over the interface in the latest version of tacview but didn’t see if this was an option anywhere.
-
That’s a good point eihort!
For now, there is no option to remove greyed dead units on the ground.
Rather than adding such kind of option, I’m thinking about better managing this kind of case by properly merging bubbles from different time-frame automatically.
Could you share me some VHS files (original VHS, not the converted ACMI files) which show clearly this kind of issue. I will use this as a benchmark for an improved algorithm to fix this issue.
-
my apologies if this has come before in this topic somewhere, but i realised a while ago that bullets were removed from tacview, i remember during dogfight acmi tapes that i could see the bullets flying in tacview but i no longer see them, did they get removed or have i turned a setting off somewhere?

I see that U1 is a lot more compatible with TacView (e.g. F-16Is are recognized as F-16s, SDBs, LJDAMs, etc. aren’t recognized as countermeasures or nothing). How many issues are remaining to be solved in your end at some point Vyrtuoz?

it’s 4.33 compatibily that was added (not U1 specificly).
onlder versions still used the 4.32 DB which caused F-16I to be A-26 and such. -
Tacview 1.4.3 has been indeed compiled using BMS 4.33 database. If you are using an older version of Tacview or a different version of BMS, then you may not always see the proper objects in the 3D view.
Of course, I’m going to update Tacview 1.5 database using BMS 4.33 U1.
Meanwhile, if you have noticed invalid objects with Tacview 1.4.3 and BMS 4.33 U1, you can re-import the new BMS 4.33 U1 database by following the provided documentation:

Anyone had any luck getting Balkans terrain to show in Tacview? I’m stumped.
-
Have you tried this? http://tacview.strasoftware.com/documentation/falcon/#q12
-
I there a way to record the mission to tacview without using the ACMI recording (VHS)… reason is , that is takes so long to wait for the ACMI for download after a game… and that is with a SSD. Anyway love this tool…
Also Sting, I got your VHS recording to work on Balkans.
1. Ensure you have not edited (and it is present) the file Data-Falcon4Theaters.xml. eg :-C:\Program Files (x86)\Stra Software\Tacview\Data\Xml\ Data-Falcon4Theaters.xml
2:- Open Tack view and manually set it to Falcon 4.0 :- Under Options/Terrain
3:- Now, select Open File and at the bottom of the Open File pop-up window, set the Falcon 4.0 Theatre Drop down to Balkans.
4:- Then select you VHS file and open.
5:- Watch the magic happen. -

How embarrassing…I totally missed it…
thank you.

Tacview 1.5 is now available to everyone!
http://www.strasoftware.com/download/tacview
While - at the first sight - this version does not look very different from the 1.4.3, it is a huge leap forward! This is simply the biggest upgrade to date: It took about 8 months of hard work and debugging to perfect a whole new telemetry engine and file format.
Why all this work?
The new telemetry engine is more powerful, transparent and efficient than ever:
- It can manage any kind of data even unknown one. The owners of the Home and Professional editions can now use the new raw telemetry tool to have a look at all the data recorded for each object of the battlefield. In a future release, new customizable telemetry windows will be introduced, in addition of the raw telemetry tool, to replace the old - and now overloaded - telemetry ones.
- This new engine also supports real-time data recording… which will soon lead to real-time flight data recording for the devices and simulators which support this kind of feature (like DCS World, FSX, X-Plane…)
- Thanks to lossless optimizations and improved structures, the new engine requires two times less memory to load the same amount of data as before!
- Thanks to full 64-bit floating point precision and spherical interpolations, replays are much more accurate than before, especially when analyzing real-life data and intercontinental flights.
- The “good” old text and compressed binary file formats are gone! From now on, Tacview will save all of your data in a much cleaner and more intuitive text format (optionally compressed in zip, and soon 7z). Please note that DCS World and FSX exporters will switch to this new format soon.
- This new file format is very easy to learn and to master. This means that, with just a bit of programming knowledge, you can easily create your own exporter. You can even create a file by hand - like show bellow - to inject data in Tacview world. A detailed documentation for the acmi 2.0 file format is available online: http://www.tacview.net/documentation/acmi/
What does that mean for you?
These two major improvements will soon enable really useful features. Here are two obvious examples:
- Real-time flight data recording, replay and analysis: Soon you will be able to see a flight in progress! Which is going to be very useful for instructors and referees.
- Soon, all the data available in your cockpit will be visible in Tacview: Like fuel flow, controls position and even the pilot point-of-view and head movements!
What about Bullseye?
Tacview 1.5 natively support the display of bullseye and bullseye coordinates. For now, you can display a bullseye by creating and merging a tiny telemetry file like the following. Tools will be added soon so you can create and edit this kind of data directly from Tacview.
- Each bullseye is positioned using the “T=” statement in the following order: longitude in degrees, latitude in degrees, altitude in meters (altitude is used only for display purposes).
- Use the notepad to create a text file containing the following data and use the merge function of Tacview to add it to your flight data.
FileType=text/acmi/tacview FileVersion=2.0 100000001,T=41.72611|42.12278|2000,Type=Navaid+Bullseye,Coalition=Enemies,Color=Blue 100000002,T=40|44|2000,Type=Navaid+Bullseye,Coalition=Allies,Color=Red

Note for BMS users
Thanks to your feedback I have noticed that the day/night cycle is not correct with BMS VHS files.
This is because the time provided in VHS files is in local time instead of UTC.
I will manage properly this case in Tacview 1.5.1
-
Great step forward! Thank you very much m8!
-
BIG THANKS Vyrtuoz!
You’re the MAN ! -
Forgive me if this is a dumb question where I missed something obvious, but Do I uninstall the previous version of install over it?

This version will be automatically installed over any 1.4.x versions. If you have an older version, you may want to manually uninstall 1.3.x versions for example.

Two issues regarding 1.5:
1. When .ini file is dragged over the Tacview window a terrain elevation change occurs which in effect puts low flying aircrafts under it.
2. Aircraft labels hiding is disabled. All in all many thanks for your hard work!
-
Hi POLARIS1,
Unfortunately, I was not able to reproduce any of these two issues.
- Can you share me your VHS and INI files which display the wrong terrain? Can you describe exactly how to reproduce the bug? (also, which theater are you using?)
- Aircraft label option seems to work fine. Remember that the selected aircraft have their labels always visible. Can you show me exactly which options you are talking about?
