Newbie trying to lock enemies
-
Hello @ all,
I’m total newbie to this game. Together with some friends we managed to set up a dogfight for us alone.
I also managed to shot some oppenents with short range missiles while seeing them. But how to use the MRM? I can move with Shift-Arrows a little “crosshair” but how can I lock a target inbetween those ||?
Sorry for my noobish Question.
Greets,

Move the TMS hat up.
Also, you will find the avionics as a whole well explained in the manual, included in your install folder.

As a newbie player you should really read what he says carefully. Most people ignore the manuals until they have been playing for months and then realize there is a ton of info about things you didn’t even realize were in the game explained in the manuals. To expand on Blue’s answer, if I recall correctly the default key for TMS Up in the keyfile is the NUM 0 key. But I haven’t used the keys for some time since they are all mapped to the HOTAS, so I would verify that can in Settings once you’re in the game. Keep in mind there are several modes for the FCR so “Locking” a target is a relative term. You can Bug a target which is like a soft lock, or you can TMS Up again to go into what most people consider a target “lock”

Yes, NUM 0 is the Designate(Lock) key.
Hit NUM 0 once and the target is “Soft Locked”, he doesn’t know you have him locked.
Hit NUM 0 a second time and the target is “Hard Locked” and he now knows you have him locked as his cockpit warnings alert him.
More in the manual!!!

This is the biggest concern I would have, for any new player. BMS is just not a game, and its just not something you can jump into and ‘get the hang of’. You need to study, and to an extent you need to research. The manuals are there for a reason, and they are a very good stepping stone. You should use it.

So assuming Num 0 is the TMS up command (one such reason I avoid every using key commands, and instead refer to the controls), and that you started in RWS, TMS up over a track file will put the radar in RWS-SAM, which among other things will cause the radar to ‘dwell’ briefly on the bugged target. Its hard to say, without looking at the code, whether the AI react or not to being bugged, definitively. I know some folks who will swear up and down that they do, and others who just as vehemently, will swear they do not.
If you bug a human player, however, they can tell the difference between a bug and a lock, and between bugged and not bugged. I would tend personally towards assuming that the AI can detect, and do react to, being bugged.

Again, even when not using a HOTAS and using keyboard commands, study the files included with the BMS install, there’s also a full keyboard layout included! I’d say a must for non HOTAS users[emoji2]

Well, it may be because you have a keyboard different than I. Of course mine is US, QWERTY.
The Return to Search/Unlock key is Keypad “Del”.
