Make some noise!?

I know how that goes. I’ve changed three files aside from the intro music.
-camp_over.ogg : Which sounded like a tank track or something. The sound was so bad that I could be wrong what it is supposed to be. I replaced it with good audio of tanks.
-fly_used.ogg : It was a very unrealistic and IMHO annoying flyby. I changed it into 2 royal Dutch air force f-16’s doing a flyby.
-truck1.ogg & truck2.ogg : They were like cartoon sounds of trucks, so I am replacing them.Once I find all the worst sounds and update then in my install and test, I will upload my sound folder if anyone wants to check it out. I would like to put some other people’s high quality sounds in here.

Well for the Radio ATC it would be nice if a coder could create an application that would do it all…
Show you the txt let you play current audio and let you replace the audio thus inject the audio. Also a rec function would be also great. That way ATC radios could be easily managed. Also nice would be if it would have and manage language groups.Nice initiative Viking… thank you for your offer. Waiting for the fruits of your project.

Yeah, that sounds nice. So far I have not even come across any of the radio audio. It may be buried in a file somewhere. If I find it all I can do without coders doing their thing is edit and change the sound files.
I just finished replacing the loadout page sound and a sonic boom file. Time to test it out.

All atc radio are packed in one file. You must use a tool called tlktool to extract them. It makes them wav and unique audio file per txt spoken. also there is a file with the index of audio files number name and the corresponding text message.
Oh and since many guys seem to want a noise Gun… there is a Vulcan headed to your studio… pls record live fire and update the file…

This is semi viable for some limited parts of it. For instance, I started a simple project to create ATIS recordings for BMS, dynamically, in response to changes in the weather maps loaded by BMS. Hit a bit of a wall with reading the fmap format, but the idea is similar to what you propose.
-
Well those files don’t need to change often.
You actually need a tool to extract the archive contents.
Display those contents with the ability to playback the audio and see the corresponding text message.
Allow you to edit/record or change with new audio or change the text message?
finally repack the changes to the archive. Now the manage multiple languages is the cherry on the pie. like the text is unique doesn’t change per lang IIRC but the audio yes… so that way you can track or hear if you have it in your lang or in english.
This tool would be a great addition for theater makers as they will be able to adopt their theater to their lang and also a great tool for users to switch from one language to the other.
It actually should be integrated in Falcon Editor. Or launched from BMS Launcher… (Just saying)
-
For ATC maybe it would be great to use Windows SAPI… Just a tought, nothing more )
-
 guys we’ve gone way offtopic I believe… maybe someone should create such a thread and there do our thing… viking will go steaming… and vikings are not to mess with… I see Thor pounding his hummer already…
-
 Whatever the project, I would be happy to work on any of the audio. I’ll start with things that I don’t need a coder for. If a coder wants to write code to improve sound them I will happily follow wherever the project leads.
-
Well it would be also a nice aspect in case the team wants to add some new sounds.

Once I get through the ancient GUI and ground equipment sounds I’ll have a better idea about which sound files are from when. Eventually I will get to the point where I will not be able to go further without instruction on how things should sound and if they are already correct. I have no means to get sound files that are calibrated so I will stay far away from sounds that have been tuned. My first goal is to make every sound in 2D make you feel like you are making your way through the squadron and walking to your A/C. I have thought about making some sounds into sounds that you would hear walking to the jet. Once I finish with all the buttons and menu controls I’ll see if there is anything else I can do.

Very nice. Hope to hear soon something

Does anyone know about the ui voices? There are 138 files and I have only heard maybe 50 of them. Most of the ones that are supposed to be for the campaign I have never heard. I would like to know how to get them to trigger in the campaign UI. Some of the clips are great. There are like ten of them talking about SAM threats.

Just small note: RWR gadget removal from Tac Ref is intentional as we have different RWR types with different logic/sounds. It cannot be fixed just bring back old UI Element.
Tacref is hardcoded to ALR-69/56 symbols and sounds. It’s totaly separate from actual RWR logic. It’s just “mockup”. You will need new RWR gadget in TacRef where you can switch RWR type and it means a lot of new code that is not planned.
-
Well it sounds like maybe I should learn to code. I will do the things that do not need coding then maybe I will have a better idea of how to progress or gain the help of a coder. First I want to find some really good button sounds. Any suggestions for the UI buttons?

Something tactile, and unintrusive. Perhaps evocative of mil spec switches clicking.

I meant it needs code suport in exe itself, needs to be coded in c++ in BMS exe source code not in UI “code” definitions. Just wanted make this clear. You can’t do this.
Anyway looking forward to UI interface sounds. RWR sounds was done mainly by Dee-Jay with with a lot of research done on this to represent actual emitter pulses signature for different radar modes and don’t think they needs to be redone. In any case contact Dee-Jay here for futher info.
-
That’s good to know. I’m not really interested in the sounds in the pit. I was only talking about the RWR in the UI. I thought if it was easy to have a directory of RWR sounds matched with the emitter in the UI then I would work with the audio files to make that happen. I see my time spent most effectively by changing the files that are original software made sounds from the '90s. Also I will try to enable all the great voices that are not working. Once those and the UI are done, I will see if anyone made any progress with making the radios more dynamic. I’ve heard some good ideas including weather reports. Some of the audio voices in the game that are not being used would be great to get working again.
-
Yeah that UI RWR in tacref had meaning before multiple RWR types was implemented and even then it was totally separated from actual in-game RWR, UI used tga files to display emitter symbols and sounds associated to it. Now it is impossible in tacref and hardcode something in UI has no meaning as RWR symbol libraries can change over time as we get more info on each system and keep UI in sync will be real pain. I recommend skip this. UI tacred RWR gadged was removed and is unsupported now.

Once I finish the old UI sounds I’ll see if anyone wants to improve any other areas. I will also try to work out ways to get the voices into falcon that are not working. It would be awesome to have the voice file activated for a SAM when you go to a DEAD or SEAD mission, or have the Adder voice file activate when doing an AA mission. There are also many sound files that were created for parts of the game but don’t work.
Work flow:
1. Replace old low quality UI sounds.
2. Enable any good voice/sound files or find places to use them.
3. Find out exactly how the dynamic folder and ogg files work, so I can make the music more dynamic.
4. See if anybody wants to do radios or other sounds that are buried in data.
