Need help with device reordering (hotas stick/thruster are seperated by rudder pedal)
-
Hi everyone, I’ve been bashing my head against a brick wall for the past 2 days trying to get my Hotas and Rudder Pedals working in BMS. I use the Saitek X55 Stick/Throttle and Saitek Rudder Pedals. My problem is that I want to use Snell’s profile (https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?24506-X55-keyfile-Full-DX-Programmed) for 4.33. However, the controller ID’s of the Hotas/Rudder pedals are in the wrong order: With the stick registering as the first device, rudder pedal as the second and throttle as the 3rd connected device. I’ve tried virtually everything to make windows ‘forget’ about the rudder pedals in second position to move it as the 3rd device (thus allowing the keyfile to work). Tried uninstalling the drivers for the rudder pedals, disconnecting, restarting and reinstalling drivers, but to no avail, it simply resets to be device #2 causing the throttle to use keybindings from 56 onwards (instead of 31 like its meant to be). Please help, I’ve searched the internet for hours for solutions and haven’t come across anything that works

Try changing this file to set the device order you need: x:\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\User\Config\DeviceSorting.txt

Agave_Blue, you are amazing! Changing the device order in the DeviceSorting.txt file fixed my issue. Thank you so much, I am very grateful

Aarnoman you would save yourself a lot of time (and brick walls) if you read the BMS-Manual (in your \Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\Docs\Falcon BMS Manuals folder). There is so much that is useful in there to help you get the sim working to your satisfaction.
For example pages 49-50 explain cause and solution for the problem you had. You weren’t the first person to have that problem and wont be the last, which is why we tried to anticipate as much as possible to help new and returning virtual pilots.

Thank you, and fair point, I should have read through the documentation first. Appreciate all your work.

Hey guys,
Im new to BMS and am having the same issue, except my issue is that i dont even have the Devicesorting.txt file in my uaer config folder. I only have a txt file called DefultDevices.txt and devicesorting.txt is nowhere to be found. What do i do in this case? I load up BMS but the Devicesorting.txt file is not there or does not get created…should i maybe reinstall BMS?Thanks,

If you don’t have the device sorting text file, you’re not on the most current version, or you have a bugged install.
What version are you running?

I am running version 4.33

The device sorting might not have come until update 1 (I think I read that, iirc). One obvious solution is to update. Current version is U3.
There are really only two other options.
- Take care to plug in all devices in exactly the same USB slots and in exactly the same order each time. The point is to try to get Windows to recognize device ordering the same way every time.
- Renumber in the BMS keyfile (or keyfile editor spreadsheet) the devices based on their current order. If you do this, you’ll still want to do #1 above.
Also, I think there are 3rd party tools that will maintain your device order, but I’ve never used them. It seems to me that once the user ‘locks down’ how windows is recognizing the device order, it remains stable.
Last thought: If you’re using a USB hub, be sure it’s a powered hub.
