31st trainings theatre
-
So today i decided to share some screens of the work i’ve been doing on en off for about a year now. Started working on this last year, and seein as i’ve got a little more time these days, i’m planning to pick it up again.
Iv’e created a theatre for internal use by our dutch 31st squadron. The idea was to create a fictional theatre, to accomodate especially for trainingmissions. So whenever someone invents a specific training on a certain subject, the theatre will be adjusted to help with that training. For example we could lay down big arrow tracks on the tiles textures, to help practice overhead breaks, or ils landings.
The theatre is still in very early stage of development, but i got it working. So i’d thought to show some screens.
Leeuwarden airbase. Build entirly from scratch. Took me about 3 months, using newly made 4k textures for taxiways and ramps. Taxiways and runways were cut into pieces and textured seperatly. Meaning corners,
ramps, crossings, were all mapped inidividually. So it’s not 1 big model with 1 big googlemap texture on it. Way more work, but way better result too.
rebuild the shelters:
(saw some screens from jan has last week, these models have nothing to do with those. Jan’s are spectaculary good!)Since this is a 31st squadron theatre, i decided to put our own hanger in there:
This is how it looks at night. Roof edges and logo are lighted, and also did light coming out of the windows, since the lights in the hanger itself are on.:
in the hanger itself, each pilot can have its own logo over his own parking spot:
Then i wanted another airbase (woensdrecht). This one i did in 4 days time. I used a different method (the more common one), wich yields much lower detail, but is way more easier and quicker, than the method i used for leeuwarden.
Then i designed my own trainingrange, wich has different target setups, for different kind of attacks.:
And Then……there is this:
You see, twice a year our squadron organizes a 2-day lan party, and at the end of day 1, we fly something we call the red bull air race. Which is basically chaos with a lot of fun. Then i thought: “why not hold a real race?”. So i made a taxi-racetrack, just for some lolz:
So what do you guys think? is it any good?

Very impressed! Love the daft race track
-
Yeah, that looks REAL good. Your models and artwork on Leeuwarden airbase are EXCELLENT!!
Great Job. But to tell you the truth I LOVE the Taxi racetrack, that’s off the charts, what a great idea.
I’ve always wanted to build a replica of the Red Bull aerial courses, but other work has held that thought in the back of my mind. Maybe one day.
Awesome work. If you need testing for the track……lemme know!! HAHA.
Cheers,
C9

Spectacular!!!

Awesome!! Love it, espacially the Racetrack and this amazing Hangar!

I ask this only out of curiosity, not criticism. Most theaters have a very distinct and unnatural color variation between the airfield ground cover and that of the surrounding tile. Why is that? Limit in available colors? Lighting? Effort to make the colors match?

Awesome

Nice!!

most of the time the airfield ground colors come from google maps. The tiles from BMS do not. In order to make them stand out less, you have to blend the two together. For example, look at the practice range i made. Look at the edges. I tried to blend the google maps tiles (the brown tiles) with the surrounding green tiles. The result is a blended line, instead of a hard edge like at leeuwarden tiles. So for leeuwarden i still have to do this.

Very nice and great work on Leeuwarden!!!

Leeuwarden looks great, fantastic work (and so does the rest, needless to say). I think I actually recognize that hangar in that 1st screenshot… is it the one that had the AIM-120 launcher in front of it scaring peeps with its sudden movements and loud noises during the OpenDagen 2016?
Cheers, Uwe

Sweetness!

I didnt notice that. We were at leeuwarden for that event though. We actually were giving BMS demonstrations in one of the hangars ourselves with our squadron.
So naturally, i took pictures there and used the texture in the airbase.
Also, i took pictures of the actual hanger we were in, and put that in BMS as well:

Great work nighteyes …. I must say the BMS community has some very very talanted members. Salute goes out to all of you, and if the 31st or yourself ever decide to release this Theater I think its a must have.

Excellent work.

So today i ‘found’ (placed :D) a new target in our theatre:
Placing a couple of bombs smashed some windows and blew out a couple of things:
until finally the tower itself toppled over (satisfying )
