Hello supanova, and other pilots!
i am learning Falcon BMS, flying the TR-TEs, following your tutorial-video-instructions and the bms training tutorial. I have a problem with the LGB-TE (airstart) concerning the TGP. Everything seems to be ok, until i step to WP7 (designated as target-waypoint (yellow crane) before in the recon-menue). After that the TGP sight does not switch to the target (yellow crane), as shown in the video and bms-tutorial. It looks far beyond somewhere to the west. I tried several times but can’t find the reason for that. Can you tell me what might be wrong or the missing step?
Best regards

LOOPusDid you set the crane as a target steerpoint in mission planning? And are you sure you selected it in recon, then setting it as Target steerpoint
-
Yes. Make sure to click the right arrow next to DESIGNATE AS TRG STPT to increase the number to 7 and click accept.
-
yes, i followed supanovas instruction, rigth klick on WP7 in mission planning map, open recon, selected the yellow crane in the open window (green marking) and set the target steerpoint ( > #7, click accept). Then i set the target sight (256°). after that i close all open windows and start the mission. Is there something missing to be done?

Sometimes I have this issue, I usually get around it by assigning the target to a higher steer point (usually 15 and so on for additional targets), try that and see if it works.

Yes i agree with this, remember the steerpoint 7 is set as just a steerpoint so i would also start from 15. The game can get confused as the target steerpoint is now the same steerpoint as the actual steerpoint not on target.
-
ok, i will try that and report later on (surprise, the error does not sit in front of the monitor…hope so!)

THX!I’m still learning too but this is the best way to designate GPS bombs too when you get to that (I may be doing it wrong though) but it allows you to quickly cycle a group of targets that are close together, for example dropping several gbu 39 sdbs at some sams or something.

Are you saving the DTC?
-
no, i did not save the DTC… but i`m not shure now it is mentioned in the tutorials?! If it is and it is mandatory i will try that too and report.

Hello,
I was pretty sure to solve the problem with your suggestions, unfortunately I do not succeed with both of your solutions.
first i tested to save and load the DTC (target steerpoint was designated already from last flight). Now the TGP sight locked on the target after setting to wp7, but only for a second or two, then it moved away and jumped around like crazy.
After that i tried to designate the crane with target steerpoint #15, but the TGP shows something like Nirvana.
I will try on, find the solution and report here.
Thank you mates! -
I looked at that mission again, and the TGP behaved correctly. You don’t need to save the DTC, but I thought that might shake something loose.
I have noticed that BMS can do strange things when switching back to the desktop. I suspect you’re looking at the PDF and video while running the mission. If that’s correct, try either memorising or writing the steps down, and trying it without switching to the desktop.
What you’re describing sounds like a bug, rather than an issue with the steps you’re following.

Reading the BMS training tutorial i found a clue that could be an explanation. I did not TMS down/Wide field/Curser Zero to cancel any curser slew. I did not slew the curser, but there might be a slew by the system, because i activated TGP before WP6. I try this and report tomorrow.
edit:
I followed your advide and avoided to switch between bms and the desktop (PDF). Now the TGP locked on target steerpoint, but after some time the crosshairs moved slowly away so it looses the lock (maybe movement of the joystick or the other devices are cause for slewing?). I depressed OSB CZ and the TGP locked on again for a moment, but does not stay there.
I’m done and fed up with this for the moment :blowpar:
Moving on to another TR-TE…mhh …better fly DCS Viggen to have some fun
Best Regards and THX

OK,mission accomplished 3x…
I’m not sure why I was successful in the end, but i changed the order of execution intensionally (for example i set up the laser-mode first). I also made as little joystick input as possible, because it is obvious that abrupt steering could harm the target system. The result was, the target was marked properly and constantly, and good hits… -
Good to hear you got it working in the end.

I hope it is not too off topic to describe another problem here…
I’ve planned a TE that starts with a ramp start. The flight path has 9 waypoints and 2 target-waypoints stored in the DTC. After the machine is started, the DTC is loaded and the INS is aligned (?), I have the following problems.1. The HSD does not display the flight path.
2. The HUD does not display either the FPM, the pitch scale, the heading tape, or the roll indicator. Also not when I switch the buttons on the HUD panel. Only the altitude and the airspeed scale are visible. When the TE is started on the runway, everything is as it should be. What could be wrong?

Check the “RDY” status on DED and ensure your IRS in set on NAV mode before takeoff …

That possible might raise more questions…… [emoji6]
But Dee-Jay is right of course, did you align the INS and switch it to NAV before takeoff?
