DEAD Missions - How to get KS-19 radars to light up?
-
Good Afternoon, Friends!
Just had a super time on our Falcon 4.33! Now that I have learned to handle and/or avoid stalls in my noble F/A-18, I can approach my target. A bunch of mean nasty KS-19 AA guns. I am trying to get them to light up so that I can skewer them with Magnums. Flew directly over the target at Waypoint 7 at 25,000 ft. Only got search radars and some Half-assed boats. Got jumped by some Mig-23’s who shot me down before I could cook off an AIM-120. Any ideas about how to get those KS-19 acquisition radars to light up?

KS-19 themselves don’t have radars, they are optical.
you can get the fire cans to light up by flying right over them, granted that isn’t very useful because you can’t shoot them if you are right over the top of them- further it’s dangerous and expending AGM-88 to whack one of twenty million fire cans in north korea seems to me a waste of time.
if i’m hunting AAA i use GBU-39/38/54 or JSOW/maverick
try those instead probably

Yeah I’d go JSOWs all the way on this one. You can stand off and get a lot of em and you’ll probably get the Fire Can while you’re at it.
That is so long as you have the proper air cover.

‘Fire can’ normally appear on the HAD screen at a distance of 10-15nm, blinking ‘A’.
but this distance can be tricky to launch a succesfull -88 hit.So, the HAD can save in the memory the ‘A’ location. fly away from the RDR location, turn back at 25-30nm and shoot -88 on it. If the RDR is still in its place it will be destroyed by the magnum.
If the AAA battalion is on the move, this procedure will not work.I normally don’t destroy ‘Fire can’, i use them as markers so i know where is the AAA battallion and ‘go around’

Don’t care about radars. Simply blow up the guns with SDB, they give more than enough standoff range. Even better than JSOW. JSOW is ok as long as they are bunched up so you can take multiple ones with single JSOW.
